I am sure they are also using their amateur scouts for feedback on the prospects themselves. They all might end up blowing it, no doubt, but at least it is a number of people talking about it and questioning one another (I would assume) to at least reach some sort of consensus. I guess we will see shortly....
I don't pretend to know what kind of input a guy like Goulet has, but looking at past moves this braintrust either executed or attempted (where one would assume they reached a consensus) it doesn't instill any kind of confidence in them as a group.

We'll see but as I said, very worried.

Marty McSorley mentioned it on Sportsnet several days and and it's been repeated several times since. I hope that's good enough.

Nothing would make me happier than the flames doing a blockbuster with the bruins for major pieces with salary retention for a genuine blue chip piece.

Same for any team in the league, really, but ference and iginla winning together would be nice.

I don't care what comes off the flames roster, I want the real deal for once. Multiple firsts and seconds or a single cant miss piece.

I have this nasty feeling that we're going to get exactly that explanation from Feaster as soon as the deadline passes. "Nobody was willing to pay us what we feel he's worth." Well, I hope he's "worth" you losing your job, nitwit, because that's what happens when people demonstrate such incompetence.

Iginla's present and future (on-ice) value to the franchise is zero. He will never be a significant contributor to another successful season. His potential off-ice value (i.e. as the face of the franchise) is also near zero; as many people are ticked that he's still here as are hoping that he'll re-sign. But if the management allows him to leave for nothing, we're going to see the greatest backlash since Doug Gilmour.

I guess the only question that remains is, if you keep him past the deadline, what can you trade his neg. rights for prior to July 5? Wideman cost a 5th-rounder. What will be the going rate for Iginla? THAT is the only "minimum return" that should come into play before the deadline. If he's worth a 5th-rounder on June 25, then you accept anything higher than that on April 2. A 5th and a 7th? Fine with me!

I'm totally prepping for the "We tried" press conference after a completely fruitless deadline day. I don't really think it will totally fail, but I can see the big ticket items all being here in the end.

Seems quite apparanet that Iggy's trade value is now declining day by day. Big surprise. If ever there was a Harvard Biz School case study on how to wreck a hockey franchise we are it.

Why is "common sense" so far from common, and rarely sensible?

Every trade analysis I have heard so far always ends with something along the lines of "Nobody knows how Iginla will react to being asked to play a different/reduced role on a new team"...
I have seen this a couple of times, and it makes me think that the analysts really do not have any idea what they are talking about. "Nobody knows"? That's bullocks. Iginla played in a support role during the 2010 Olympics, on a team stacked with "alpha males" and he rose to the occasion. He was the highest scoring player on a team loaded with offensive talent; just quietly went about playing his role, and killed the competition in a gold medal performance.

The only reason stuff like this is said is because news outlets need to the exposure.

Dean McAmmond was Jarome's left winger when Donovan had his career high. Donovan wasn't playing with Iginla. But don't worry McAmmond also had a career high with Iginla so your point still stands.

Honestly? I'm fine with that. Iginla means more to this team and to this city than practically any individual player to any team in the past two decades. If the Flames can't hit a home run by trading him, then I can't see how simply moving him for ANYTHING is justifiable given everything that he has meant for the Flames. The only reason the team is considering this is as a way to kick-start a rebuild, and if they can't get the pieces to do it, then what would be the point?

Yes, he may leave as a free agent, and that is unfortunate. Yes, the team is heading into uncharted lottery-pick territory, and could be terrible for a long time. If the return is indeed lower than what is being reported, then trading Iginla does not really make much difference one way or the other. But is all of this really worth the anger and consternation? Get a grip people. It's a game.

His on-ice value is zero? He's a consistent 60-70 point forward. How about the enjoyment we get from watching a great player play for our team? Such a load of crap. He's more valuable on the ice than what amounts to basically a second pick and a bunch of maybe prospects (if that's what Feaster has been offered). I hope Feaster has set the price high and I hope he sticks to it. It would suck to trade the best player this franchise has ever seen for 3-4 lottery tickets.

I think that if they could get from the Bruins a package of Spooner, Camara and a 1st rounder, they should probably pull the trigger.

No stars or franchise players there but Spooner looks like he's at least on his way to being a 2nd line centre and Camara fills a long term need of a greasy physical winger, which is something you'll need with small stars like Sven and Gaudreau.

The first is what the Flames can make out of it.

I don't see this kind of package as being too hard for the Bruins to swallow. There's no blue chip prospect here but at least Spooner looks like he'll be an NHL guy and Camara has an opportunity.

This is still better than letting Iginla leave for nothing and for the Bruins, it's really not going to impact them this year or in the long run.

I think you should focus on your negotiation if you are fine with a 5th and a 7th for Iginla.

In 100 years, we're all dead. I hope to enjoy another Stanley cup before it's my time. Iginla's 30 goals and 70 points have zero value if they don't contribute to a cup, which they won't. We need at least a chance of finding the guy who will give those 30/70 in 5 years when it really matters. Keeping him for another 20 games, or even another year or two, just reduces the chance of getting that guy.

Retire his number to show the franchise's pride. Watch tapes of 2004 for nostalgia. But don't screw the future just based on nostalgia and pride.

Put me on the opposite end of the spectrum. I'm really excited to see what's going to happen this coming week. For the first time in quite awhile we get to see how the direction of the franchise changes with the Iginla trade and other selected players Feaster has chosen to unload. The Iginla era will be over and the birth of a new one will begin.
