We have a BB-8, it's seriously the cutest thing ever. Tons of fun, but my Android app just doesn't offer the features of my roomie's iPhone app, which has some amazing voice controls.
It's a must get if you have pets.

I am guessing the general principle is that it is like a hamster ball with some kind of RC motors inside to provide the motion.
There would be a weight to keep the mechanism inside the ball always upright regardless of what the body is doing.
I am speculating that there is a magnet inside, always positioned towards the top of the body and it attracts the head piece, that is rolling on some bearing.
It actually seems like something that would be fairly easy to rig up.
Also Star Wars related, started reading Aftermath, the novel that's supposed to connect RotJ and the new movies... it's pretty bad, I've read YA novels seemingly written to a higher grade level.

I wasn't expecting Hemingway, but I was hoping I'd at least get Harry Potter. I know I shouldn't be surprised, just disappointed, I forgot what these novels were like.

That's fair.
I read Dark Disciple while I was on vacation in the summer. It was my first Star Wars book in probably a decade. So that was my reentry to the style of novel.
Still enjoying Aftermath though.

I'm about halfway through Aftermath, my first attempt at a Star Wars novel since the Timothy Zhan ones first came out. My expectations were very low so it wasn't hard to meet them. The writing is pretty low-level but I've read worse (the Kevin Anderson/Brian Herbert Dune books come to mind). I was expecting something more big-scale in terms of story though, with the hype about these books explaining what happens between Episodes VI and VII.
If the novel isn't your style, a new comic hit this week that explores post-ROTJ territory. Shattered Empire is the first of the new Star Wars comics from Marvel that is set in this time period, and it is written by Eisner and Harvey award winner Greg Rucka. It was released to comic shops on Wednesday.

Do I buy the single issues, or wait for the trade?
