That was kind of my thoughts. Unless he steps in and makes a huge contribution, I think Ward will go with what got the team there. I think Gaudreau will have to play well enough that he forces Ward into a situation where he can't take him out of the lineup.

I'm extremely eager- yet cautious- to see how Johnny will turn out. The kid seems to be a beast for BC, and I hope he can keep that same consistency in AHL and hopefully, NHL. I'm glad that he decided to play another season at BC, because I really think it shows his dedication to progress and succeed. The kid is talented, no one can deny. I really hope that as he puts on a few pounds, he doesn't lose his ability.

I think this is how most fan's feel, myself included.
The way I see it, if he turns into a full-time NHLer he's going to be a young top 6 potential star player. I'd see it as 1 less early first rounder that the flames require in this rebuild. I'm not saying it will take a full year off a rebuild, but it's one more important asset that the Flames will have for years to come. If he doesn't pan out it's no big deal as he was a 4th rounder and it's really just a big bonus if he does.

Hard to believe he was a 4th rounder... But who knew he would turn out to be the best NCAA player out there this year. I honestly think JG could at least turn out to be a .5 PPG player in his first NHL year, just like Monahan.
I think JG could replace Cammy's spot, he's pretty much a younger Cammy for us. Same number and everything! Cammy has to be traded at the deadline, I just don't see why we wouldn't.

I think John probably feels like he owes the Flames or a sense of loyalty for drafting him and being the team that called his name despite being a small player.
I always look back at his stats at dubuque and even before that and think wow..how did this kid go in the 4th round. The obvious answer is size. I just hope we dont miss out on players like Gaudreau in the future drafts because of truculence. Sure its nice to be big but you also need special players for the 1st line and those come in all shapes and sizes.
A player I think will be similar to Gaudreau at the NHL level when they both make it is Martin Reway - teammate of Emile Poirier at Gatinaeu - was drafted by MTL. I enjoy watching skillfull players and hope we keep drafting the best player available and not just for size

Edit: Best I could find was Peter Sejna who had a single-season 31 game point streak with Colorado College in 2003. Still doesn't say it was the record though.

With UMASS winning last night, BC will have to wait until next weekend to lock up 1st place.
Fri 02/21/14 UMass Lowell at Boston College 7:00 p.m.

Unless I'm missing something, I think they can clinch with a win tonight. They have 29 points in Hockey East. UMass Lowell has 22 points with 4 games left, so their maximum is 30.
A win tonight would give BC 31.

Jordan Eberle kind of guy?? Maybe??? With some defensive acumen to his game I noticed. More vision though I think. I hate to overrate prospects and rarely do, but this guy is special. VERY aware. That is rare at this level.

I think thats a great comparison. Eberle may have a better release and Gaudreau may be better at stick-handling but they are definitely similar. I think a good comparison is a smaller Patrick Kane. Same lethal backhand as well.
Although Kane was a much higher level prospect in my opinion and obviously became an elite NHL talent. Not to mention he had in 58 games 62 goal 83 assists for 145 points in his rookie and only season in the OHL with London.
Some incredible stats, no wonder he went 1st overall. But my point is Gaudreau has some of the same hockey style and upside, shifty - hands, playmaker who can score himself. This 4th rounder is pretty damn exciting. Hope we can keep drafting well.
