Just another lane for strugglers in giant vehicles to clog up. I think we live in a pretty easy city to get around in. What sucks is the lazy, inconsiderate, and incompetent drivers who can't figure out how to not be an obstacle on those roads.
Also, if someone gets in front of me without signalling properly I'm honking at them. If they don't like it #### them. It's such an easy thing to do but 1. Flick 2. Turn seems beyond so many people's comprehension.
Edit: wtf emoji?

Even if you wanted to speed, it's impossible now. People just roadblock all over the place, doing under the limit in the left lane. Quality of drivers has nosedived.
The blantant disregard for other rules is amazing too. Never have I seen so many people run reds (as in, stop at light then proceed though it anyways), making up dual turn lanes, etc.

The amount of people that think they can change lanes in a roundabout and then give you the finger after you honk at them is staggering. Truly unbelievable.

We added a whole new city's worth of population in just the last year. Not surprising.

My brother used to be friends with Leslie back in the day. We had callerID from the start and when the phone would ring it would say Feist and I would say "fata not her again, its not for me". Back when she was the lead singer of Placebo.

The only thought that kept me through pandemic was that maybe this will kill enough people that traffic will get better. No, absolute worst scenario on all fronts. Oh ya, everything is 16 million times more expensive but those pay cuts you took are still in full effect.

Changing demographics plays a huge part it in. We have a lot more older drivers who seem to love being a hindrance to other drivers. The longer it takes to make a left turn the better. No wonder we no long have yield on green lights.
And we have people new to the country. While I generally welcome them they often come from countries with little driving culture and are taking driving/delivery jobs out of necessity.
I've said it a million times but there's also the fact that we're all driving bigger vehicles. Lines at lights are that much longer so getting into turning lanes is harder and good luck getting people to exit/enter a parking lot without using at least 3/4 of the available space.

I will admit to having started doing this now. In my neighborhood, in the early AM on my way to work only though. I'm often the only vehicle on the road and it's a really long light to turn from my smaller collector road onto the main community road so I will do this if there no vehicles in sight.

In the last year, the city added an advanced left signal from southbound Fairmont to eastbound Southland Drive as that intersection regularly got badly backed up in the evening rush. In the last 2-3 months it seems like about 20% of the time in the earlyish morning someone northbound on Fairmont will blow the red light before the advanced left is done. Mind blowing to me how running red lights has become so normalized in the last half year. Cycling to downtown is starting to feel a little sketchy again.

I used to watch placebo in the black lung. Still have a cd I bought at a show. I think it's called Don't Drink the Bath Water or something like that and it's actually still good imo.

I don’t know how she still had lungs. Definitely a different type of singer now.

I guess it's going to be me? You can go through 100 red lights and have no issues, but then you get used to it and maybe miss something on the 101st time.
How long could the light possibly be? Even if it was like 2-3 minutes (which I'm sure it's not based on the description), then just leave 2 minutes earlier and your fine?

Anyone else remember when many 'minor' intersections with traffic lights would default to flashing reds and yellows at night? So if you were approaching from the 'minor' road you got a flashing red that you'd treat like a stop sign? Wish they'd bring that back...

The infantilization of the world continues. Why sit at a light with no one around? They added the light (1) for the lowest common denominator driver and (2) for times when it is busy, it need not apply when you are the only car on the road.

It comes and goes in waves like this. Every September / October are also terrible like this, if not worse as people return from summer vacations and go back to school. Then the volume will lighten up in November / December and stay lighter through to April or so, but you have to deal with weather-related issues. Then in May / June the better weather brings more people back to the roads and people start driving faster / more recklessly and causing more accidents that back things up. Then in July / August things lighten up again as kids are out of school and people go on holiday.
Rinse and repeat.

We predicate obtaining a drivers judgment on 99% of the driving experience, but there are four things where that doesn’t matter. It’s idiotic. Idiots make society worse. Worse are those who applaud idiots and accept. You are the target market!
