I am suggesting he is more of an ideologue than a leader. Prove me wrong, PP.

Alberta elected a majority government and has no senate to provide a check on power. Like it or not the UCP has a mandate to do whatever the hell they want.
Did think they’d wait at least a year to break their pension election promise though.

I'm honestly curious how Smith would even get the federal government to give up half the pension dollars (that's with the assumption Smith's kooky math is right, which it's clearly not). What happens if the Feds just simply tell her to eff off? Is she just gonna tantrum some more?

The correct answer is to say it is a stupid plan for all parties, but I am not so sure PP would go with that.

He probably wishes the whole APP/CPP issue wasn’t even a thing. Nothing but downside for him politically.

She’ll burn more of our money on a frivolous law suit.

I bet he would prefer them to stay in CPP if he was Prime minister but at the end of the day he would honour their wishes.

Yeah aren’t they inconvenient?
Of course Alberta has a right to start its own plan….but there is no parallel aside from that to Quebec. They never joined the plan and there was no messy divorce or allocation of resources. There is no precedent for someone exiting and the breakup will be very messy.
Now, Trudeau shouldn’t do Smith any favours here. His message should be along the lines of - the legislation gives Alberta this option but the data is pretty clear - the CPP is very well managed, far exceeding the returns from say AIMCo. Add in the benefits of Albertans participating in a larger more diverse fund and the long run favours continued CPP involvement.

If they are going to make up kyit anyways, why wouldn't they say they would get $5 trillion from the CPP and that it would leave $0 for Quebec seniors.

No he wouldn’t. The CPC would be cast to down to the realm of the Green Party if they did.
The UPC needs adversaries. They and all their supporters would implode if anyone at a different level of government went along with any of their idiocy.
