What on earth! You can't be for real... Weegar was solid and kept getting better all season despite being on team chaos

I heard the morning show talking about the Lindholm for 3rd overall with one of their guests today (didn’t catch his name) and the conclusion is if there is an extension in place it is not that crazy. I still think it is crazy for Columbus to do that but if it is possible Calgary needs to do it.
Carlson would play next year and the Flames could still be a strong team next year if guys like Huberdeau and Markstrom bounce back.

I just can't see the Jackets doing that. As much as I would love it to happen it seems like really poor management for the Jackets to pass up the 3rd overall pick in this draft for a player that's not even truly elite. I like Lindholm and value what he brings but he's not a franchise altering player. Gaudreau is and not even he could help that team last season. Also unless they roll out big dollars I'm not sure why Lindholm would be inclined to sign with the Jackets for what would could be the rest of his career.

The trade was completely fine given the circumstances. Heck, it was actually great. Tkachuk had the Flames by the balls and used all of the leverage he could. It’s amazing Brad pulled off what he did.
I never doubted that Tkachuk was a franchise player and I was extremely sad to see him go despite the return, but what are you going to do? He didn’t want to be here so it was either this or lose him for nothing.

Pretty sure they can't extend Lindhom until July 1st, and the draft is in June, so that is pretty much impossible.

They could have an agreement in place and the July 1st signatures being more of a formality.

They can agree to do something if conditions are met, then execute when it’s allowed

That would be an amazing trade. Columbus adds someone to complement Gaudreau, Laine, Werenski, and Johnson. Calgary recoups significant value.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Screw it, shoot for the moon.
Lindholm, Hanifin, Vladar for 2023 3OA, 22OA and Jake F'N Bean. Bring Bean home!

Columbus is very shallow on defense. I don't think they'd want to give up on Bean quite yet.
Really, I think they'd probably want to acquire someone like Tanev. If they liked Gubranson enough to make him the 2nd highest paid defenseman on the team, imagine what they'd give for Tanev.

Pretty good chance Tanev has CBJ on his no trade list.

Maybe I'm overvaluing the 3rd overall pick in what is projected to be the best 1st round since 2015... but I feel like the 3rd pick should have massive value.
Like, if CBJ is considering this at all, the Flames should do what it takes to make it happen. It would be by far the most valuable asset in the organization.
To me, even trading the 16th pick along with Lindholm for the 3rd pick is a massive win for the Flames. The Flames get a young, cost controlled player who has a very high chance of turning into a star.
I think the mistake of giving Lindholm an 8 year deal at age 29 alone is enough to steer clear of retaining him.

Maybe an extended Lindholm and Hanifin gets it done. I am still very skeptical but Jarmo did go all in on the Bob and Panarin year. I'm still thinking it will be Sillinger+ if he does go to Columbus

I think picks tend to get overvalued but you still got to do it if you are the Flames. There is a very good chance that the player picked with the 3OA never matches Lindholm's career but for a guy that wants out it sure beats a late first. I'd be shocked if it went down though. What other team would be offering anything close.

I’m concerned about the longer term impact of Tanev’s shoulder injury, and can’t imagine league GMs would not be

Yeah, Tanev needs to go to a team that wants to make a playoff run. I'd be hesitant to sign him long-term

Yep, if this is even remotely possible the Flames would be stupid not to bite.
Lindholm is a great player, probably the best C we've had since Newy and S1-2 Monahan.
But with is displeasure this year and the non-committal comments you simply cannot afford to lose him for nothing but you also cant afford to sign him to an 8x8 or 8x7 which is likely where he comes in at.
Flames are basically guaranteed a Fantilli or Carlsson which while not as good as Lindholm today, easily project to become an impact 1C and can step in right away. Either of those guys playing with Huberdeau on their wing could end up having a fantastic rookie season.
I'd be shocked if Columbus did it, but it wouldn't surprise me as they are just starting their window now.

Didn't realize Sillinger was born in Columbus. Grew up in Regina at least, and has represented Canada
