They've also been threatened with the removal of it's voting rights in EU, and the idea of throwing them out of EU altogether has become popular enough that it can be considered a real possibility. They've also been slapped with more than 500 million in fines for violating EU migration laws. I could go on. The EU - Hungary spat has been heating up on many fronts, not just over Ukraine.

Orban doing a rhetorical 180 on Russia is pretty clearly an attempt to fend off some of that pressure. My cynical read is that he hopes to give on the rhetorical front in hopes to not have to do anything real. I doubt this does much, EU is just running out of patience there. (As much as you can make such a broad statement about a federation as large as EU.)
That's probably it.

Orban is a coward and a scammer. He used to be anti-Russia at one point then after meeting directly with Putin in Moscow, he came back being more pro-Russian or at least trumpeting their side of the story. It's hard not to believe that he received some kind of bribe or promise to help him fulfill his own nationalistic plans one day.

I think he is now seeing that Russia can't help him anymore and is afraid of losing the EU perks. Some members of his government have at least stayed against Russia the whole time, but there is too much power consolidated in one person.

Is the F-16 downing an enemy fighter the first air-to-air combat kill since Vietnam or Korea?

Crazy.

Oh no, there's been plenty since then. There was one even just a few weeks ago between Pakistan and India.

The official reason for Goose's death was aircraft mechanical error - the parachute deploying while the canopy was still above Goose. Although, some argue Goose mis-deployed the ejection before the canopy was clear.

It could largely be attributed to the F-14's mechanical systems and jet engine placement which cause an engine flameout and the flat spin. The F14 being susceptible to flat spins due to asymmetric air flow and the canopy not floating away if in a flat spin.

In reality, the engine flameout was caused by turbulent airflow, which, in turn, was caused by being too close to the exhaust of the jet in front of them... which was Iceman:

Quote:
While Iceman got in front of Maverick and Goose, he couldn't get a clean shot. He was repeatedly asked to move out of the way, so Maverick could take over.

However, he stubbornly stayed, trying to take down Jester and prevent his direct competitor from scoring points over him. No matter how hard he tried, Iceman couldn't get a lock on Jester's plane, forcing him to ultimately break off. Unfortunately, by the time Iceman got out of the way, it was too late; Maverick was too close to his tail, causing him to fly directly through the jet wash.
So, you could argue it was Iceman. But I refuse to reprimand my boy.

I see in the Russian losses tweet above that today they should exceed 1,000,000 casualties, congratulations Russia!

Russia has to just be out of tanks here. I thought the estimates for 11 - 13K tanks in their whole arsenal including storage. How is Ukraine fairing on their armor numbers?

Calgary Ukrainian community to meet with Zelenskyy during G7

https://calgaryherald.com/news/local...skyy-during-g7

Quote:
Members of Calgary’s Ukrainian community will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after his G7 appearance in southern Alberta, the local leader of the movement said Friday.

Ten people from across Canada, including the local group, will have an audience with Zelenskyy for up to an hour in an undisclosed location in Calgary on Tuesday, said Roman Yosyfiv, president of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress’s Calgary branch.
Pretty neat that Zelensky himself will be here in Calgary shortly! There's a huge Ukrainian community here and across Alberta.
