Oilers scratched Schultz to make sure no scouts see him live

Based on what being said at the Canucks intermission Hamhuis would be willing to accept a trade if the Canucks made it clear he would be welcome back as a UFA, he wants to end his career here, whole family settled in the area and with ties to community/church etc.
that seems like a no brainer to me

All the scouts are at the oilers game so they can gauge Schults bad points. Gain an upper hand on the team that trades for him in case they t play them.

Why not get the third *and* attempt to re-sign him on July 1?

Probably drives down the return though as some teams do look for more than a short term rental.
I'd do the same for Hudler if possible. The first line needs him for at least another year or two.
The Hamhuis note is good for the Russell market though.

Both guys have had similar career curves, middle 6ers on great teams and then top liners last year on rebuilding teams' first playoff appearances. Ladd takes more penalties, scores less goals, gets significantly less assists, and has played less playoff games. I sure hope GMs aren't thinking Ladd is a more useful playoff performer. The Ducks shut him down completely last year and he didn't do much on the 2010 Blackhawks either.
|
Stan Bowman obviously did despite your hope. Depends on the makeup of the team. CHI has a ton of small, skilled forwards in Kane, Panarin, Teravainen so Ladd with his size and grit is a much better fit for them. They don't need to add more pure offensive skill in a small frame. I love the pickup for them, Ladd plays a pretty powerful game and is a great complimentary player. He was easily the best forward available on the market by a decent margin IMO.

Canucks D Dan Hamhuis has been given the option to waive his no-trade clause to go to Chicago, he has been given time to access the situation and discuss it with his family.

Not sure how the hawks are gonna do this, also sounds like they may go after Radim Vrbata if they can't get Hamhuis.

Yeah I just saw that on HF. It sounds like Hamhuis might not waive his NTC, not unless he can come back to Vancouver. But apparently he's been formally asked for a Chicago offer.
If so, you mine as well hand Chicago the cup. Hopefully Dallas offers something better and then LA offer something for Russell. If Chicago takes all the good parts it's not an arms race anymore

That's the best case Ontario. Either way, I could care less.

i'm a bit confused. I understand that Ladd is a top6 winger who provides offense, a cup winner, a captain, and has size.
Hudler is all those things, except the latter 2. So while he may not hold equal value, i am completely lost on how his value drops to the point of just "a 3rd round pick"
Can anyone enlighten me on this??

John Shannon is a complete moron and Francis is Francis so that explained it for me. In his SUN article he says 2nd round pick and anything higher would be a huge win

I think these morons in the media have heard that the GMs are not willing to trade first round picks this year, and as a result, rental values are down.
But with the trades so far, we can see that this is not the case.
I think this means that while Hudler might not get a first, he may still be worth more than a second. Two of Nashville's seconds are collectively worth more than one of Chicago's firsts IMO.

I would still prefer Nish over the stars first rounder...stay tuned(said with an upward inflection to make it sound more like a question and less like a statement)
