I think for TV purposes they will just show the bottom 5 picks in reverse order. Start with #5 and count down to #1. If they start with pick #15, there will most likely be no drama once they get to end.
They'll probably announce them the same way they did last year, where they ran through the teams based on the final standings, with a different coloured card for those who move up.
Last year was just gold for first. They could do bronze, silver, and gold for 3rd, 2nd, and 1st.

I would absolutely love it if by some miracle the three bottom teams all got pushed out to 4th.
Would probably seriously make teams reconsider tanking.
I don't think even if that happened it would have any more effect on teams tanking. I'm sure teams like Vancouver and Toronto are well aware of the possibility of that happening, regardless it's still fact that tanking gives the best possible odds.

No, the combos assigned to the teams that win the first two draws are just considered dead-combos like the 11-12-13-14 combo on the first draw.
It may require a few draws to actually get three unique winners, but they'll eventually get them.
I guess they could do the redraws. From the NHL site, I guess I interpreted it as them changing the numbers that are assigned.
The allocation of odds for the 1st Lottery draw will be the same as outlined above for the 2015 NHL Draft Lottery. The odds for the remaining teams will increase on a proportionate basis for the 2nd Lottery draw, based on which Club wins the 1st Lottery draw, and again for the 3rd Lottery draw, based on which Club wins the 2nd Lottery draw

The simplest way to achieve that is to just keep all assigned numbers the same and make any numbers of teams already drawn dead redraws (similar to the 11-12-13-14 dead combo on the first draw). The result is that the remaining "live" numbers will maintain the new proportional representations as they go.
Re-assigning numbers after each draw would be more complicated because the breakout of the 1001 combinations would change based on who was picked first and second. And because not all possible combos would necessarily easily divide into 1001 (or 1000 like the first round) there would be a changing number of dead combos. Sure, you could achieve the same thing. Its just simpler to do it the first way.
...not sure if that made any sense

It does. I just always expect the NHL to do things the hard way. The behind the scenes video would be pretty funny to watch Bettman's reaction as they redo the draws a crap load of times.

With Edmonton's proficiency at winning lotteries, it certainly could be an infinite loop.
I've clearly crossed over into the old fart category. I remember when those hits were legal and can't suddenly feel bad about them. I jump out of my seat when someone gets laid out in hockey, football, boxing/MMA.
Rationally I understand the implications of concussions but the sports I mentioned sell violence and I eat it up.
The Flames usually draft a goalie prospect at least every second year. They didn't draft one last year, so the trend would dictate that they do draft one this year.
However, they did sign Nick Schneider, so maybe they feel the system is concentrated already.
Do you guys think the Flames would have interest in any of the projected goalie prospects for this draft?

Its interesting. I'm quite happy with how Gillies and McDonald are looking at this stage, but when you look at our 2nd and where it'll likely be, somewhere in the 33-37 region, it might put us in the range of the top ranked goalies in this draft. With our goaltending issues, I don't think it'll hurt to draft another goalie. We might be in a situation where we get someone like Carter Hart because he's the BPA.
Saying that though, I'd be surprised if they added another goalie in the draft. I reckon they'll concentrate on skaters, especially in the first 3 rounds. Maybe they take one in the 4th-5th, or perhaps with the Wilds 6th?
Looking at our prospects, I feel quite happy about our prospect pool is looking at the moment. None of the skater prospects look capable of filling out a top 6/top 4 role, but then its unlikely our 2nd will return a one of those calibre players. So maybe taking a goalie makes sense. You can still package together the Florida 2nd and Dallas' 2nd(assuming thats what it becomes) and move up if you see a player you really like.
I think it largely depends on where Dallas pick ends up. If it becomes a first, I could see them using our second on a goalie. If it remains a second, then it will depend on what's on the board when our first second round pick is up.

Personally, I really like the idea of drafting a goalie every two years - it seems to be the right pace to keep the system stocked.
But with a 22 year old Gillies, a 19 year old McDonald and an 18 year old Simpson, I think drafting another 18 year old this year crowds things too much. In two years there would be no where to put these guys.
(note: if someone gets traded, obviously that changes things)

If some how the Flames luck out and all of Gillies + McDonald + Schneider + potential draft pick turn out to be NHL starting calibre goalies, that's pretty much the opposite of a problem. You can sell off whichever for a lot more than what ever pick you used on them.
