Even today, I really don't think this trade is going to sink in until game #1 of the regular season for me. Feels too good to be true. But it is real.

Same here. In the mid summer blues, and the focus on the Jay's acquisitions, its hard to focus on the Flames. But every once and a while I sit back and remind myself about this trade and a big smile forms. Cant wait for day one.

It's ok, it's there to balance out all the crap deals we've had to deal with over the years.

I've definitely gone back and read through parts of this thread, the HF Bruins thread, and the HF main board thread. The suggestions of who Calgary gave up before the news fully broke are particularly entertaining. Bennett? Gaudreau? Brodie? Haha, nope. Just a midround first and 2 seconds.

the bruins better get a hugh haul here and not just the 3rd pick.

Giordano + #15
I want Gadreau and Bennett and I want Dougie to be signed at 9 million
Am I having a nightmare?
Bennett+1st+what else?
This has the potential to make the Seguin trade look like a steal
It has to be Gaudreau or Monahan and +
Anything less then Bennett, or Monahan coming back is a cluster**** of epic proportions.
The Don is sticking it to Chia by sending him to the Flames
im expecting Gaudreau + 15
I would laugh so hard if we got Wideman back. And then jump off a bridge.
I will kill myself
After learning of the transaction.
Haha, holy ****. Congratulations Toronto, you have been unseated as the worst managed franchise in the league.
**** this mother****ing team

Assuming everyone on D is healthy...do the Flames now have the strongest D core in the league?
I guess CHI and NSH might have something to say about that.

Chicago's D kinda sucks, especially after losing Oduya. There's a reason Duncan Keith played like 35 minutes a night in the playoffs.

I think Chicago's D is really good. Certainly above average in the NHL.
Keith - Seabrook are a top 3-5 pairing in the NHL.
Hjalmarsson is a top shutdown guy with amazing playoff experience.
Daley was Dallas' captain at one point, and can put up good offensive numbers.
Runblad and TVR I don't know much about.
It's not Calgary's D, however.

Who among us didnt think one of Monahan/Gaudreau/Bennett was gone initially?
As soon as it was confirmed that we got Hamilton I had the dreaded feeling of knowing one of them was going back in return.
This was a steal, plain and simple.

To be fair when the Phanuef trade was first reported, some Flames fans were expecting:
Kessel & Kadri
Kessel & Kaberle
Kessel, Schenn +
3 way trade with Anaheim and Bobby Ryan coming to the Flames.
It still amazes me how much Bruins fan reactions mirrored Flames fan reactions that day.

Me. I was pretty confident that Treliving and Burke wouldn't give up Bennett, Monahan or Gaudreau in pretty much any deal. Those are our foundational, core, rebuilding players. Wasn't worried about any of them being included.

Really?
I mean, I was thinking along the same lines except that the Flames are strong and deep up front but badly needed to shore up the back-end and Hamilton is a foundational, core player as well, you usually dont land one of them without giving one up.
The fact that Monahan/Gaudreau/Bennett are core players was exactly why I thought one of them would go. I never considered Brodie because it wouldnt make any sense to give up an established DMan in exchange for Hamilton because it would be treading water at best.

Very true. Reading that HF thread was mildly amusing, but also brought back hard memories of the Phaneuf, Regehr, Iginla and Bouw trades.
