That looks like a blend of something out of the marvel/transformers universes. A bit too dark for a bunch of minion clones.
Nah, like the neutral and simplistic look of stormtroopers, but I'm not a fan of the new duck bill helmet. It's a little strange.

That one was designed by Square Enix.
The Boba Fett is pretty cool.

I don't know if I like that all that much, its cool and all, but makes me think its more in line with a Dark Trooper.

Kylo's hilt is connected to the actual saber in the figure... perhaps they are updating it for the movie?

The BB8 is pretty nifty. I can understand the mechanics of the body moving around, but how does the head stay on top? Magnets?

Because you didn't buy one for her too? That's the only reason I can think of why anyone would be unhappy with that purchase.
Best Buy is selling the BB-8 in Canada for $189.99:

Unfortunately, it's currently sold out online.

There would be a weight to keep the mechanism inside the ball always upright regardless of what the body is doing.
I am speculating that there is a magnet inside, always positioned towards the top of the body and it attracts the head piece, that is rolling on some bearing.
It actually seems like something that would be fairly easy to rig up.
