THIS is why people make fun of Edmonton. When will this stupid city figure it out? They continue to kick their own ass every day, it's impossible not to make fun of them.
Odd bump but I was talking about the TV segment, not the radio segment.
odd bump, how so?
I never heard the interview mentioned in the link, I saw the TV spot live and that's what I remember him saying, not "Johnny jockey" - I can't find any other websites mentioning Healy saying that either.
w/e doesn't matter. Healy is a buffoon and I like Johnny Gaudreau

It was Johnny Jockey. I remember it clearly, he said it during an intermission on a saturday game before Johnny went on a tear which started if I recall correctly during that telecast. Healy said Jockey because Johnny is small and he felt that he hadn't done anything to warrant such a nickname like Hockey yet. It also rhymed with Hockey which you could tell Healy was proud of. End of the day Healy = hahahahahahahahahaha.
From searching google i found this tweet:

@Tmart1040 remember when Healy said Gaudreau wasn't very good. Called him johnny jockey...
There were actually 3 different incidents. First was an intermission during a Jets/Flames game where he said Johnny hadn't done anything to earn the moniker "Johnny Hockey". Second was a radio interview where he suggested the nickname be "Johnny Shinny". Third was at the start of a Blackhawks/Flames broadcast where he referred to him as "Johnny Jockey".

And not once has he had to face the music for it... He has not had to own up to how wrong he was. That Winnipeg game he said Johnny was "just not that good"... That was Gaudreau's break out game in the NHL and he had 3 points that night. On CBC After Hours, the other panelists started to tease Healy about how wrong he was... He literally didn't address it and changed the subject by pointing out how funny one of the other panelist's socks were.
From what I have seen, Healy hasn't been on HNIC After Hours since then... At least never a game Johnny played in. He wouldn't even give Johnny any credit or praise at the All Star game on Sunday. The other commentators did a bunch of times cause of how impressive he was amongst the league's best... but Healy was silent whenever Johnny was brought up.

And for it to be Conroy who was so adamant on taking him, that's a good eye for talent. To find a player who, let's be honest, would have been a slam dunk to hit 1000 points over 100 picks into his draft class is amazing. We had it so good with Johnny.

One of the top value picks of all time. Crazy actually that another in Kucherov was from the same draft.
Jay Feaster mentioned before that they had Kucherov on their list as well and gambled he would fall further, but once he was picked, they knew they couldn't risk the same thing with Johnny and took him with their next pick.

Yup. Great article about how we snagged Johnny before the Bruins did, and how the team tried not to show their interest too strongly in the undersized playmaker from Dubuque: https://calgaryherald.com/sports/hoc...2011-nhl-draft
