Yeah, but he was never mobile and never missed a start. For me it will be more of does he have any feel left for the game. Believe me as a fan of a rival team who lost a lot of games to Rivers.....I wanted to see him get lit up. It never happened, and it was only on interception returns that he ever took big hits. He was pretty deft at moving around and getting rid of the ball much like Tom Brady. So I'll be contrarian here and say he doesn't take much in terms of hits because his average depth of target is under 2.5 yards.

Still insane to me that we have a bunch of quality, playoff impacting games tomorrow and they chose to keep JJ McCarthy football on SNF. Would way rather see Rivers fighting for his life.

Yeah, I thought a few weeks ago that the Colts and Seahawks might get flexed into this spot. That and next weeks game with the Ravens and Patriots which eventually did were two that stood out to me. I had thought the Patriots and Bills might get flexed too, but with Miami being less bad and Pittsburgh somehow being in the mix for the Division they opted to keep that on Monday night.
Maybe we get Panthers and Bucs in Week 18 to see which 8-9 team will win that Division.

I think Colts feel they're already in too deep on going all-in this year, with that Sauce Gardner trade (who's also hurt), combined with a perceived lack of options at QB, especially who knows their offence. So if a middle aged man has to die to secure a division title, them's the breaks.

I feel like we should be talking more about the state of NFL QB play and why it's led a team to (likely correctly) deduct that bringing in 44 year old off the street who wasn't played a single down of real football in five years and just throw him straight to the wolves is their best option. I know, I know, he knows the playbook and can basically plug and play, but he's 44 lol. There's seriously not a single active guy out there who can step in and throw some check downs and screens?

Well no other team would even remotely consider this. It is only Steichen who would have even thought of Rivers. My guess is that every single other NFL team has at least 2 QB's they like way better than Rivers, And most have three or more.
Problem is familiarity with the offense. All week long, backups and and QB3 are running scout team. Head coaches have little confidence in their ability to run the offense, the sole reason that Rivers is active.
He's also not the first old QB. Steve DeBerg was about this age IIRC.

Slow, old man Flacco did OK for the Bengals. But he wasn't out of football for 5 years. Still, I expect Rivers will be just fine. Based on nothing

The issue is as much the speed of processing as anything else, if you're a split second slower in making a decision than you were when you retired, you're absolutely screwed. And not having done it for five years, even in a practice setting, there's no way your mind is working that quickly.
