Definitely takes a lot to get a catcher to be willing to come out of the game in the 9th. Hopefully it is more of an acute pain issue than something more serious.

I am less optimistic about Kirk’s future - catching is really physical (imagine doing that many squats several times a week) and it’s likely going to catch up with his joints as he ages. He is a great contact hitter with an exceptional understanding of the strike zone but the Jays shouldn’t be reliant on his production IMO.

The encouraging thing about Kirk is his Hard Hit and Line drive percentages are way up. As we know anything on the ground is an automatic out, or worse, so if he can keep those numbers up he'll be more than productive for this team. Especially with the way he's throwing out baserunners this year.
