That ship has sailed. Connie will patch things up and Marky will start backed by Wolf Next season.

Probably, it's the flames way.
Makes me nervous as hell. We have that conditional pick looming over us.
It's really going to hurt this retool to lose our 11-15 pick.
So our we bottoming out or making playoffs next year? Recent history says were probably not making playoffs.
Are we bad enough to get into bottom 10 with Markstrom? We're barely doing it this year.

This team, with Markstrom, has been playing roughly .300 hockey since trading away the UFAs. Yes, we are definitely bad enough.

The ship that has sailed is Markstrom returning next year from what I have heard. I would be shocked if he is not moved this offseason.

Now you're just mellowing people's harsh. How can a so-called fan exist without constantly imagining the worst?

Wasn't moving Markstrom the worst case scenario for alot of people recently, and if you wanted it to happen you were slapped with the constant negatively label?
The high horse goal posts keep moving...

I don't really have sources, but yeah, it really seems like the writing is on the wall there.
The next thing people will be upset about is that the deal isn't perceived as good as the NJ package was.

They can decide they're ending the relationship all they want but they should also know by now the value is not there for your assets in the summer. It's there at the trade deadline. Conroy went through this last year. Listening to local media they've alluded to it - Steinberg suggested the offer for Hanifin last summer was a 3rd for example. What they're really doing is punting to next deadline IMO.

Marky is a pro. He won’t force a trade. The relationship is no where near that bad. It’s a few sit down meetings and maybe some contrition from higher up, away from being fixed.
What is there to be mad about? “We want to keep you because you are awesome” “you are worth way more than they offered” “you are important to this project”
Maybe he gives them a list and they agree to do what they can if they get value. Tell him what that is, why not. A first and a high quality Centre prospect.
There’s lots of time for things to cool down. And he’ll be far away from the asinine rumour journalists for a few months too.

Nobody's moving goal posts. The same people who wanted Markstrom moved then want him moved now. And it is a subset of those same people who are making up a scenario where he never gets moved, just so they can complain about that.

Toffoli for a first (2022 deadline)
Toffoli for Sharangovich and a 3rd (June 2023)
Toffoli for 2nd and 3rd (2024 Deadline)
Which of the above do you think was the best return at the time?
Just an example, but what we see here in Toffoli is a player who's value diminished the closer he got to free agency. I think the Flames will still do fine, and if they pull the trigger in the summer its because a price was met. At least Markstrom wont be a free agent after next year either so 2025 trade deadline is still likely a good time to trade him as you suggest. I don't think the summer will be as bad a time to trade him as you suggest, however

Goalies are a bit different. If you haven't got a decent starting goalie, you can't just wait till the deadline to add one. By that time, your season is already lost.
The Devils could have had Markstrom in time to save their season, but they dithered and dithered and farted around, and by deadline day they were out of the race. The smart move would have been to acquire a goalie as soon as they knew they needed one.

The flat cap made trades tough in the offseason the past 4-5 years post COVID but that wasn't the case in the past.
You'll have Utah looking to make a splash, teams like Buffalo, Detroit, New Jersey, and others looking to add to get into the playoffs in the east, and you have a $88M cap that is expected to go to go to $93M the following season.
The rising cap will add to the movement for sure.

If the Avs get knocked out of the Playoffs due to goaltending, I'd be shocked if Marky isn't in Colorado next season

Name a person who wasn't in favour of moving Markstrom. Let alone it being the "worst case scenario".

Markstrom is getting older and wants to win now, that isn't in the cards here. He absolutely is a pro but he also wants an opportunity to take a team far and nobody should blame him one bit if he decides to leave which I am about 95% sure is going to happen.

To be fair, a lot of people were only in favour of moving Markstrom for a good price. I was one who said he has some value as a mentor for Wolf, and you need to match that value to make a trade worthwhile.

In the end the salary cap being $88M next year will facilitate movement.
I also think teams like Buffalo, Utah, Chicago, Anaheim, Detroit will start to spend more next year instead of being closer to the bottom right now.

Utah for certain, as the new owners have money to spend and the old one couldn't even pay his bills.

That’s a whole different discussion. I don’t know any poster who didn’t think moving Markstrom for a good price would not be OK. The whole discussion was value, not moving or not moving.
