Flames are not flush with cap space if they still want to sign Chucky, Mangiapane, Gudbransen and fill out the roster. There isn’t room for a $7M overpaid winger.

Would be nice if we could land P. Kane now.

I know we would be dumb to fork over our 2023 1st, but Kane for Lucic, Monahan, and 2023 1st would be a start. Would probably need to add a solid prospect on our end and a cheap bottom 6 player from their end go make it fair.

It's hard to say if they should fully dump assets and go for broke this year, but I think it has to start with Tkachuk dealt before the season begins. Treliving has to know where he stands with these FA's now, and with one less major asset, the core needs a reset through the draft. Can't risk his value dropping further without Gaudreau's help. I'd then consider aging guys like Backlund, and finally look at a cap dump in Coleman. Defence I'd look to keep for now but in a deep draft I hope Treliving and ownership does the right thing to do things the hard way and not the rushed way.

I just don’t see us rebuilding unless we absolutely suck *** without Johnny. Which is very possible. Something tells me someone will step up though.

I honestly think the Flames could be a better playoff team with a couple shrewd signings...not sure they can get there though

Gotta get in first friend. Thats a hurdle now without a player that can win you a game while everyone else is asleep at the wheel. 82 Games is a grind.

That’s actually one of my bigger fears in the past couple of hours. I love Mang, but I think he’s going to get overpaid.

Even if we trade everyone and try to tank, we'll probably end up with a season where we over-achieve and finish 15th and get swept in round 1, especially with all the veterans and the coach we have. It is the Flames way.

I'd rather just go for some big trades. Maybe try to retool on the fly. See if we can get lucky and land a future top pair D and #1C by trading Tkachuk.

With Malkin back to Pittsburgh, look for Vincent Trocheck in Manhattan. That appears to be his best fit.

• Florida and Ottawa remain the leaders for Giroux, with Carolina lurking.

• Colorado could be fascinating. The Avalanche have indicated they’d like to explore ways of keeping Nazem Kadri. It seems impossible without major surgery, but they are trying. Kadri will receive initial offers Wednesday and go from there.

It could also go either way with Josh Manson.

• Mason Marchment is very popular, although Florida has tried to keep him. Also popular: David Perron.

• Edmonton resumed conversations with Evander Kane.

• Ondrej Palat’s got a few teams surrounding him. I’d heard Jersey, but no idea if that can work if Gaudreau ends up there. Seattle, too. The Kraken are also expected to be hard after John Klingberg and possibly a veteran centre like Noel Acciari (had heard possibility of Toronto with Acciari, too.) Andre Burakovsky would make a lot of sense for Seattle, too.

• Carolina, Colorado and Montreal are believed to have interest in Brett Kulak

• Also heard San Jose, in addition to Brent Burns, could be moving Kevin Labanc.

• I will guess Andrew Copp to Detroit, because I like to try and figure out what Steve Yzerman will do. There is also belief the Dylan Larkin extension is trending in a positive direction.

• Ilya Mikheyev guess: Washington.
