Wait, it's not an objective fact that the Toyota:
isn't cooler than the Ranger?
I find the Ranger to look so sad and boring. Like if you're looking for the lamest truck ever, that's your guy since they'll discount the fata out of it since it sucks so bad.
But the Tacoma isn't a 20-year-old design. It's five years old.

You sure? I think the 2021 is still the same as the 2011. The 2022 is supposed to be the redesign. If you try to buy a Ranger today, you're buying a 2011 truck (I think; could be wrong).

During the cold snap, the motor that drives the seat froze and broke...so now my seat was stuck as far back as it could go. With no way at all to move it forward, without tearing the seat apart to get at the screw rails myself.
It was then that I learned that the manual adjustment I had assumed existed, did not. Luckily, I was able to make things work enough to get to garage to get it fixed, but it was really annoying all of the sudden to have a seat you can't control.
I don't "hate" power seats, but I think that there should/needs to be a manual override.

I basically don’t like most digital features that don’t need to be digital to improve their function.
Like 4x4... I don’t need that to be an electronic dial that kicks in when it wants, if it wants, and if it’s working. I have a manual control on the floor, and it’s awesome. And it feels awesome to use. Why change that? Electric shifters? Get out of here. I want the shifter to at least click into a new place. Why wouldn’t it? Just silly. Silly ‘innovation’ to make sure that you are ‘innovating’ so you don’t peeve off posters like above wondering why a perfectly operational and attractive truck needs to ‘innovate’. Right in line with “touchscreens are better” thinking. Unnecessary and in no way an actual improvement.

Electric parking brakes are super annoying, too. My 2016 F-150 has one and it takes a couple seconds to fully engage versus the fraction of a second to stomp your foot down on a traditional mechanical parking brake. It annoys me every time I use it.

Personally I like the older trucks, they are cleaner and less busy than a lot of the newer designs. I prefer the 1st/2nd gen of the Tacoma to the current one in terms of styling (also the engine in the latest Taco sounds like a bag of gravel). Then again my dream truck is the 80s BTTF Toyota, so I tend to like older stuff.

Interesting, but what do you use it for? Should I be using mine? I had a hand brake seize once overnight and I’ve never used them since.

Nah, I don't use mine that often. Just when parking on a hill.

Its always a good idea to set a parking brake whenever you're on a hill. The weight of the car rests on a pin inside the transmission when you don't use the park brake. Hand brake jamming is usually from a lack of adjusting and pulling it past the point of no return.

Yeah that makes sense. I never find myself parking on hills.

Sounds like those people don't want a truck then. If those were part of my requirements I'd definitely get something like a Toyota 4Runner instead of a Tacoma

You should use it often, otherwise when you really need it, it will seize. Needs to be exercised.

It should be illegal to call things trucks that don't have 6 foot beds.

Why do you care that some people get good use out of a small truck? Mine does everything I need it to. I can tow my boat, put 4 bikes in the back, fill it with dirt, go to the dump, haul lumber, and it fits in my garage and doesn't look like a brick on stilts. Maybe you decided you need that in a truck, I decided I needed something different.

A new Tacoma isn't much different underneath than a second-generation one, introduced waaaay back in '04. The exterior and interior have been restyled, but fundamentally underneath it's pretty much the same chassis.
It's funny watching you wax poetic about how great they are on the basis of looks, too. Frankly I think the exterior styling of a Tacoma is tacky and overwrought; like a child's idea of what a truck ought to be.
I kind of get the appeal, but given how expensive they are for what you get and notorious rust-buckets it's enough for me to stay well away from them...

I want one of these so badly I can hardly stand it. If it was left hand drive I’d already have one. It would be nice if you could get them with airbags at least...
I don’t even take my truck on the highways here anyway because I’m not a millionaire. I have a more fuel efficient wagon for that. I just need to take it to the dump, lumber store, and really anywhere around town because if I had one I’d drive it everyday.
Edit:

I just don't get it that's all. Guess it just doesn't make sense to me to spend the same money on a truck that can't do truck things, seems like a waste of $. If I can't get a good-sized bed and decent towing then I'm not buying a truck. Smaller ones are just a rougher riding suv with a bed. I'd rather a wagon or proper suv (not cuv) at that point
It's the price that gets me. If they were actually about $10-$15k cheaper than a half ton then it would make complete sense. But at or near the same price point, it's puzzling
I don't care the way you seem to think I do, it's just interesting that's all. If it works for you that's fantastic. If it makes you happy that's all that matters

The reason I'm considering a mid-size truck as opposed to full size, is that I don't plan to do any towing, and I can get a top end trim level for a lot cheaper than a top of the line trim level on a full size.
That being said, I test drove a 49k Canyon with the off road package (all they had on the lot) and it just isn't worth 49k. That's out of my budget range anyways, so I'm changing my focus to something 1-2 years old. That way I can get a better trim level on a bigger truck.
