Not saying it's the right choice, or the smartest. But if mgmt want a team with some fresh faces and an injection of youth, and want it This year (which it sounds like) then they'll get it. Starting with Sean.

He's definitely built stronger than "Nuge" was when he came in. And would be played in a lesser role, too. Not too concerned.

I think even if Monahan doesn't make the jump this year you'll still see a good injection of youth.

Forwards - Corban Knight, Marcus Grandlund, Ben Hanowski, Max Reinhart, Sven Baertschi, Roman Horak, Lance Buoma

Defense - Mark Cundari, Tyler Wotherspoon

Next year - Sean Monahan, Johnny Gaudreau, Kenny Agostino, Bill Arnold, Pat Seiloff

Thanks for all the posters with the daily updates. Out of curiosity who gets invited back in september? Who gets signed for AHL/ECHL/ELC's out of this camp? Who do you like to see get a contract(ahl/echl/elc's)?

Ya, I agree with this but does the the AHL prepare these young guys better than playing in Europe?

What are the stats on this stuff?

I get learning the flames system and playing with other prospects, but is it that much better?

Conroy interview on the Development camp; lots of info

- Granlund improved skating a lot
- Culkin may be ready to turn pro now
- Seiloff will get a shot to make the big club
- Gaudreau was best player at camp
- Knight may not have lost a single faceoff the entire camp
- tough decisions to be made with the 5 goalies; contrary to some fan observations, Conroy (and Malarchuk) liked Ortio

If you hear Malarchuk talk about Ortio, they really like him a lot. Just think he's getting lite up cause there are a few technicalities that are different here then Europe.

Hey guys, you enjoyed my thoughts last time I was here, so I figured I'd come back. I did a nice post camp summary of each player. Here's a link if you want, as I won't post it here for length reasons and I'm too new on this board to make a thread:

I love Conroy and we talked a lot this week, but Knight did lose faceoffs. I clearly remember Jankowski winning a few at times. That being said, when Conroy was actually on the ice yesterday after the scrimmage working on faceoffs with guys, Knight was dominating.

And I am 100% in agreement on the Ortio bit. He has astounded me with how good he's been in camp compared to the last time I saw his highlights in Abbotsford.

Personally I don't think Sieloff is ready for a regular job. He's definitely coming along nicely, but I think at most he'll get some pre-season games.

One really encouraging thing from that interview is that it sounds like there's going to be more of a focus in Abbotsbord of getting guys ready to play for the Flames rather than just trying to get the Heat to win as many games as possible. If they follow through on that promise, it will be huge in getting more of our prospects to live up to their full potential.

Conroy was exaggerating for effect, but Knight was very solid in the two games.

I'm scared of Monahan turning pro already. He was a 6th overall pick, not a 1st, an was not a dominant scorer in junior.

If he is physically ready that's one thing, but what will make him the best possible player from ages 22-32? I don't know the answer, but it would not hurt my feelings at all to see him go out up big numbers and learn to score against boys before he tries against men.

I'm glad we have lots of options in net. The reality is that not every prospect is going to develop into a bonafide NHLer, but we've got a solid vet (Mac), two good prospects (Ramo and Berra) and three guys in the system with legit NHL potential (Ortio, Gillies and Brossoit).

Unfortunately, the last two prospects (Irving and Karlsson) didn't pan out, but that's why you need quantity as much as you need quality.

still a teenager developing. It isn't like he was Hall playing for Windsor winning back to back mem cups. I think he still has some things to prove in the CHL. Another year in Ottawa and playing in the wjc won't hurt him. This isn't MacKinnon we are talking about.

Ryan O'Reilly wasn't MacKinnon or Hall either and he did quite well as an 18 year old rookie.

I would like to see Monahan and Gaudreau break into the NHL full-time together in 2014-15. Wotherspoon and Ramage could be ready as well in two seasons.

The Flames will have Knight, Reinhart, Horak, Baertschi, Cundari, Breen, Hanowski and Bouma battling for spots this year. Enough youth to keep the fans interested.

lots to be excited about, and it'll only get better from here. This rebuild should have happened awhile ago, but it's nice it's finally happened. Nowhere to go but up in my mind. This season they either meet expectations (last) or impress, and then will eventually get better.

Camps like this one spark a lot of discussion about a lot of decent sounding prospects, I can't recall this depth at the prospect level in......... well... ever for a younger(ish) guy like me. It's a cool / refreshing change.

Oh yeah sorry, agreed. I didn't make that clear but if he is sent back I have no real problem with that either.
