Wonder if LW Erik Foley accelerates his commitment to Providence next season (originally scheduled to begin in the 2016/17 season, but could start a year earlier if Leaman thinks he is ready)
He is the 51st ranked NA skater by central scouting for the 2015 draft.
Quote:
An offensive winger who knows how to take opposing players out of the play. Can play an agitative game, but is at his best when recognizing opportunities and taking advantage of them. A good skater who has the right amount of skill to do what he can to help his team every night; on the other hand, does not possess the biggest body, so can be ineffective in his role at times. Oh damn, thought he was due to start this year. Doesn't matter in my original point to Ricardo but would love to see him on Jankowski's wing this year.

Oh no worries.
Looking around are you positive Foley hasn't committed to starting his College career this fall?
Couple sites have him listed as on the roster for this season and not as a recruit in upcoming years.
http://www.collegehockeynews.com/rep.../Providence/46
The Pipeline show did an interview with him where they say he will be joining the Friars this year.

We were happy to have Foley on The Pipeline Show in early December where we got to know more of his personality and background. The well spoken Foley is headed to Providence College next season to join the Friars which is just one of the things we talked about.
|
I skimmed through but couldn't find where they discussed it though.

I tweeted at Erik Foley and a former teammate and buddy of his, Even Abbott, got back to me. Says Foley is bound for the Friars this fall.

Would it be wishful thinking for Jankowski to be in the Hobey Baker mix next year? Just curious...

Probably. The Friars are going to take a hit and they don't have a lot of skill players. To be in the Hobey Baker discussion you need to score a lot. Don't see any gaudy numbers from the Friars next year regardless of how well Jankowski plays.

Just to add to New Era's post.
Last 10 Hobey Baker winners pts/game.
Eichel 1.77
Gaudreau 2.00
LeBlanc 1.19 (stolen from Gaudreau who had 1.46 that season)
Connolly 1.46
Miele 1.82
Geoffrion 1.25
Gilroy 0.82 (a defenceman)
Porter 1.47
Duncan 1.33
Carle 1.36 (a defenceman)
Unless Providence has some kind of offensive Renaissance and/or Jankowski has an epiphany over the summer, it is probably wishful thinking

Drew likely has all next winter to shine his trophy, he sucked as a pro and Chicago didn't re-sign him.
And the NCAA is only a notch below FIFA.

How much does Jankowski want to be a pro hockey player?
What is he studying at Providence? Will he get his degree next year?
Just from the choices it seems that the NHL might not be Jankowski's dream.
He chose Stanstead (boarding school away from home) rather than Athol Murray or Shattuck . The hockey goal of a Stanstead hockey player would be to get to play in the NCAA.
Then he chose Providence rather than a NHL hockey factory like Wisconsin or UND or Denver or Boston College or... He also went there rather than the USHL...which would have prepared him for NCAA hockey. No indication or hesitation/rumor at playing in the CHL.
His Uncle Ryan (born in Calgary) was a scout for Spokane (1997-2003) was Assistant GM with the NYI (2005-2010) and then a scout for Montreal (2010-2013) and since then Head scout for Team Canada U18 and U20.
I was wondering how Mark J. got invited to team Canada's training U20 training camp the summer of 2013 (along with Monahan and Poirier)
He obviously has more advice and inside knowledge of how difficult it is to make it to the NHL and the need for a back-up plan.
Maybe with Uncle Ryan and Montreal sitting in Draft spot #33 it forced Calgary's hand at 21 and they knew he wouldn't be available at Calgary's #42
pick.
Fred Arthur was #8 pick (ranked #5) in 1980 and played a whole season in the NHL at age 20 before quitting the NHL to study to be a Doctor. Paul Coffey was picked #6 that year. Back then a Doctor was making close to the same salary as the Average NHLer.

Really? You want to debate whether this kid truly wants to play in NHL based on where he went to school and the fact he has an uncle that works for team Canada? I guess Gillies doesn't want to be an NHL player either cause he went to providence. Same with Brandon Hickey because he decided to play junior A and the NCAA rather than in the WHL. This thread never ceases to surprise me..

Just read this article about Russian "trolls" paid to spread nonsense http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/07/ma...ency.html?_r=1 and I can't help but wonder about our friend

I can't tell if he hates him, likes him or is just posting random gibberish and Jankowski's name is just part of the chaos for reasons unknown.

Janko is studying Management at Providence. Although since he chose to play for the Friars, it is clear he'll be devoting his life to religion and would rather be the next Pope than the next Toews...

I stopped trying to understand ricardodw a long time ago. The man always has some random stat and some ridiculous assumption that forms the whole of his opinion.
He is clearly either insane, or messing with us. Either way, he is good at what he does.
