Well the post he was replying to implied that the Flames had signed UFAs (not true) and that they had not made room for youth (not true) and that by doing those two things they would be rebuilding. But they are already not signing UFAs and making room for youth so presumably they have then met that posters requirements for a rebuild to be occurring.

Just going off the top of my head the Blackhawks traded Seth Jones for a young player and pick just last year.
The Avs traded Duchene with more than a year left on his deal for futures.
Toffoli was traded with 2plus years left on his deal
Just ones that quickly come to mind in the last few years.

The hawks traded Debrincat, a very young 40 goal scorer, for futures, and Dach as well.

Neither of which match what was being described (players traded for futures with more than a year left on their deal).
Neither does Jones for that matter. Blackhawks got a starting goaltender out of the mix who was already signed to a $4M+ deal. Futures certainly wasn’t the focus of that deal.
That’s why I asked, because it seems quite rare overall and I’m curious to see how many actually fit that description. If we’re including players with a year or less, or players traded for young NHLers on multimillion dollar contracts already, then the Flames have already done quite a few of those.

Actually he was their last ditch effort at trying to remain competitive.
Added him to go with Toews/Kane/Hagel/Debrincat/Strome/Fleury.
Went as terribly as everyone expected though

The Flames are still going to listen even if they are in the wildcard hunt.

Of course they're not. Conroy will refuse to trade any of the vets and walk them all straight to the end of their contracts. You see, it's his mission in life to give all the armchair GMs on Calgarypuck someone to feel superior to.

Tell me how the Debrincat trade where he was moved with a year left and a year of RFA control for a draft pick does not meet that criteria? Spencer Knight was in the AHL last season and was far from a proven NHL talent.
I just pulled some things off the top of my head my head. You seem very capable of your own research so don’t let me stop you there

Different GM’s not the same rebuild. Jones was acquired to try and retool which didn’t work out for them

Right - it was one year before they tanked, so his second year with them. But they traded Kane within a year of signing Jones.
