A fundraiser set up to support the widow and unborn child of Matthew Gaudreau, the brother of former Columbus Blue Jackets star forward Johnny Gaudreau, has raised nearly $600,000, as of Wednesday evening.
The GoFundMe stated an original goal of $30,000, but is currently at $594,238, through the generosity of the nearly 8,200 individual donations. Matthew's widow, Madeline, is pregnant and expecting the pair's first child, according to the Associated Press. The GoFundMe states the child's name as Tripp and says all donations will be transferred directly to Madeline. Holland Korbitz, who is Madeline's sister per the AP, organized the GoFundMe.

I assumed the fundraiser was set up for Matthew's family under the assumption that John's is taken care under the NHLPA life insurance policy.

He looks like he aged 20 years and has bent and shrunk a couple of inches. I remember my father in law doing the same when my sister in law died. I cannot empasize enough how much I hate this for them and I just want to punch something.

After Meredith’s eulogy and how clear she made it that John wanted to be back home, if anyone ever insinuates again that she drove him out of this city they should be banned.

Yeah, they both have nothing but love for this city. 100% a family decision and it was 100% the right call. After this incident I think you'll be hard pressed to find anybody arguing otherwise.
Poor Guy it's only going to get tougher at the burial site.

100% This.
Guy's health. COVID. The impending birth of his child. All those things played a factor in him going back closer to home.
In the end Johnny and Meredith made the decision that was best for them and their family. And placing all of the weight of the decision of them choosing Columbus on her would be wrong. It was a decision made together, and a decision they felt was right for them.
And in hindsight if that decision gave Johnny an extra day, hour, or even just a minute with Meredith, Jane, Guy, Matty, Noa, Baby Johnny and the rest of the family then it was the right decision.

I couldn't watch while at work and just reading about it is enough to get teary eyed.
If this was a movie I would be upset with the writer for writing such an incredibly tragic story but unfortunately this is painfully real for such a wonderful family.
As someone mentioned above, I hope the kids make it to the league one day and bring a nice little ending to this what appears to be a never ending nightmare.

Will watch when it won't disrupt the entire day.
Took me a week to shake off the dark cloud of the initial news, the vigil helped with that. I expect this will open up a new wound.
Love and prayers to them all.

He gave us the best years of his career, including a couple of potential UFA years. He did more than just honour his end of the bargain. As a fan, I would have loved it if he stayed, but the decision always made sense to me and even more so now.

I'm in the office today and there was no way I could watch it. I found this link and it looks to be in really good quality.

Every parent's worst nightmare, having to bury your children. I'm glad they have such a strong family they will get each other through this, and the babies will help bring back some joy and purpose.

Seeing Sean and Guy at the end broke me. Badly.
I have had the unfortunate experience of seeing a friend's mother bury her son, and my grandpa's brother and wife bury my uncle, and their only son. That pain is too familiar to me, and my heart breaks for them.
I can't even imagine saying goodbye to one of my son's, let alone both of them.
I'm not Catholic, but that was a beautiful ceremony. Meredith's and Madeline's eulogies were beautiful. The specific references and stories to Sean made super emotional. That is the relationship i have with my cousin. I would be beyond devestated to have to say goodbye to him.
I'm actually in Calgary on Friday for work meetings. I get in at 9am, and they don't start til 1pm. I will be visiting the memorial so I can pay some form of respects and get sort of closure.

I'm glad for this.
Will be a really good distraction that will spring new hope and joy in time.
There will be Gaudreau boys who will lace up skates, chase skittles and light the lamp again, with Guy there watching proudly.

I sincerely hope so - it's unimaginable for a parent to lose one child like this let alone two at the same time.
I was really happy to hear during the service that Johnny and Guy were training together this summer. You can imagine they probably had a lot of 1-1 time they might not otherwise had the last few months.
