If anyone is cherry picking stats here it’s the original post on this topic talking about how good Lindholm was during an era with players that aren’t even here.

He didn't play much with Huberdeau past the first quarter of the season- after that, Sutter was forcing the Huberdeau/Kadri experiment.

It’s just not a relevant point because of that. If Lindholm is only on the list because of Tkachuk, then Tkachuk is only on the list because of Lindholm, and it’s no coincidence that there are batches of players that play together (or did) on that list.
At the end of the day it’s just an impressive list to be on. Nobody should feel the need to twist and turn and panic that somebody is going to sign Lindholm to a billion dollars just because he’s on the list. Why put effort into finding some reason to minimize something that makes a current and former Flame look good? It was a great season that Lindholm was a big part of. Why do you as a fan, or any fan really, feel the need to ensure nobody talks about it and nobody is impressed by it?
|
But we know that’s not true. Because Lindholm just had a recent “poor-ish” season (for his standards, or so everyone thinks) and Tkachuk just repeated his amazing season.

I mean its hard to argue with anyone that wants a total teardown anyway
Making the team worse is not exactly rocket science
don't sign anyone, trade everyone for draft picks, pray...if that is the goal there really isn't any debate worth having

Pretty comparable, even though Boston had a superior roster.

Yeah, exactly. A new strategy would be much welcomed. Seems to have worked out decently for Chicago here this off-season.

yeah and my buddy won the lottery, you should follow his financial advice
Chicago won games they had no business winning that took them out of the basement and then won the lottery

With the cap situation going forward, a Selke-quality Center who can put up the offence that Lindholm can is worth $9 mil per year. I don't think it would even be a debate if we didn't have the Huby and Kadri contracts on the books.

Good post.
Flames need performance out of Kadri and Huberdeau, plain and simple.
If these two are playing at their basic level, we aren't talking about those contracts. If Lindholm is playing at his expected level as well, then the Flames could be thinking of adding at the deadline.

Bergeron didn't hit a ppg until 2018-19, when he was 33 years old.

I mean with the current NHL setup it kinda seems that way. Been beaten to death but tough to argue that the last several cup winners mostly all seem to have a generational talent or dude that gets drafted in the top 3.

I understand not wanting to sign Lindholm if you're in the rip it down to the ground group. But I see the Flames as trying to be competitive, so I think Lindholm is one of the best ways to do that.

Ya, I've pointed that out before. That's not to say things will go exactly the same for Lindholm. But I do see more offensive skill in Lindholm then I dio Bergeron when I watch. So, you never know.

If your strategy is to trade everyone for picks, suck and draft high, then it's gone exactly to plan.
Hopefully they don't win ####. We'll see.
Edmonton, Buffalo, Columbus all say hi.

It’s a pretty big gap between people who want the best version of the Flames based on the direction they’re going and the people who wish the Flames were going in a different direction.
Based on how the Flames plan to move forward, we’d be silly not to sign Lindholm.

I know. Sucks having a 3rd OA and a 5OA on the roster...

I love it as a fan. But in a negotiating stance, it’s a different story.
I don’t see how we are debating that season was an outlier in his career, which was the point.

Ya, and everyone has their own view on it, but for me personally, I have a very hard time trying to build a team that loses on purpose.
I meant to quote you PepsiFree.

Signing Lindholm to 8.5M is good for the team, unless the goal is to be worse (which it might be for some)
I guarantee a lot of teams would love Lindholm at this price, its not about defending the Flames

But we’re not negotiating with him…
And I think the response to your point was that the whole list contains outliers and other factors that contribute to the numbers beyond any individual player’s skill level.
But it’s just a list. Nobody is trying to negotiate off it. It was just presented as a cool list to be on. And I think it is.
