The Armorer didn't know the Imperials were there in the first place, so a long set up would be far fetched. If she did know, she would have hesitated sending Dinn to Mandalore in the first place to get redeemed with the Living Waters. Why risk your trap getting discovered early? Mando has shown himself to do pretty good detective work
Gideon didn't know until after the Cain told him through the spy droid.
Rewatching the episode now, and Gideon genuinely does not know about the two factions of mandalorians joining forces. If the armorer was the spy, Gideon would know about that from the get go, as it was the armorer's master plan.
The spy must be someone that was not present when the armorer brought the two groups together.

If there even is a spy among the group. Could be Axe Woves cuz he has a beef with Bo Katan taking control of everyone. Maybe one of the Mandalore "survivors"... I find it suspect that the rocket troopers or whoever they are are so well trained in so many Mandalorian weapons. What if they are just clones and the "survivors" were training them?

But the two Red Guards in ROTS, and the Red guards in Rebels were pretty underwhelming.
Too bad Palpy's red guards can't turn their heads cuz their helmet are welded to their shoulders like the first gen Nolan and Burton Batman's suits.
The Praetorians look fantastic and are really good fighters wasted in the sequel trilogy like everything else. Good we are getting some backstory now. Maybe it's just me, but past the OG movies I've always found the Star Wars universe outside the Jedi/Sith space wizards battle to be far more interesting.
The horns on the Armor's helmet and Gideon's helment are similar to the Death Watch Maul adherent horns. Could Gideon be a former member of Death Watch? Could the Armorer?
In terms of the spies
Could it be the survivors, sure, maybe, but its too simple. I don't like it. but what if they were in the employ of the spies.
Could it be Axe, sure, but predictable as well.
Could it be the Armor? I'm guessing yes, and the "Wounded" survivors that the Armorer is hauling the the Mando fleet could be assault soldiers.
So why would the Armorer sell out to Gideon? Because he keeps ending up with the Dark saber, and the Armorer wants to reunite her people under strong leadership.
Will the Republic show up in next weeks episode? In a word I believe so. After seeing Beskar in the wreck of the shuttle the Republic probably with the help of Imperial Spies are going to believe that Gideon was rescued by Mandalorian's, so we're going to see a massive republic fleet jumping in at the worst time and crush the Mando fleet.
What about Din? They're going to attempt to rescue them and end up in the cave. Grogu will use his beast connections to bring the Mythosaur to the surface, so that Bo can ride it and crush the Imperials on the ground. Meanwhile the Imperials challenge the Mando's at exactly the wrong time and get crushed.
We see a familiar shuttle show up and make landfall. Its Ashoka and Sabine. Ashoka gets her halway moment as she rescues Din and crushes the Imperials. Gideon flees.
There are very few Mando's left, Bo kills The Armorer for her betrayal. Din is wounded. Bo swears vegence on the republic and Empire.
Meanwhile in space Gideon's X1 Fighter drifts out of fuel, when we hear the Imperial theme and a shadow passes over Gideon's ship. He looks hp and see's several Star Destroyers and a SSD. We go to the Destroyers bridge and see Thrawn's back as he orders them to bring the traitor on board

So uh...hate to bring up the elephant in the room, but clearly Boba Fett is going to show up, tame the Mythosaur, save Din and have it eat Gideon's head.
Yes.
Cant have a Mandalorian show without Boba...

I think Bo Katan will ride the Mythosaur and eat Gideon. She's the only one that's seen it, and it's the the one thing that will unite Mandalorians more than the Dark Saber. Boba is not going to be that figure I think.
I hope the Mythosaur is as big as the monster they fought on the way into the Great Forge, then we can see Gideon eaten Harkonnen Sandworm style trying to fly away.

I think they would have at least mentioned his name once this season if this were the case.
Something like this would really have to come out of nowhere.

Would they have? They didn't mention Luke's name at all when he came in all gungho at the end of season 2... Not that I think Boba will show up. I actually agree that it may be Ahsoka or Sabine that shows up.

They didn't mention Luke specifically, but most of season 2 was Din trying to find information about the Jedi and trying to contact a Jedi who could help Grogu.

General Thrawn has been mentioned, and Ahsoka's show ties into that directly. Plus they will want to promote the Ahsoka show before it releases in August 2023. Similar to how Boba Fett appeared in the Mandalorian right before The Book of Boba Fett was released.
She's also already appeared in the show, so the seed has been planted for her to be in this universe.

You know. For someone who totally punked out of the greatest Galactic conflict ever she sure seems to insert herself all over the place now.
Where were you for 25 years Ahsoka? What were you doing when Luke had to fight Vader and the Emperor all by himself?
