right...because he has hardly ever produced an NFL QB before.
Barkely may or may not succeed in the NFL, but his pedigree is there to say he is definately worth a shot. Of course, ANY selection runs a risk of failure, but no question a guy that has 4 QB's(3 starters) in the NFL right now is the one you avoid taking another from.
Good one.

How many playoff games has Carson Palmer won? Cassell? Leinart? Sanchez has done alright but the guy is hardly elite, especially considering where he was drafted. Leinart and Palmer were busts, and Cassell is a glorified game-manager (who wasn't taken in the first round, so not sure how he applies to this).

Carson palmer is a bust? OK then.
So now its all about playoff wins? Thats how we determine how good college coaches were at recruiting QB's?
I guess we should ask you then...who should teams flock to because of their stellar records in producing qbs'?
There isnt a single current or former college coach who can boast 4 qbs' in the NFL right now...sans one.

Palmer was a bust? Holy hyperbole.
The guy has thrown 154 TD's in the NFL and has thrown for almost 23,000 yards. You don't have to think he's a great QB, but he is a far cry from being a bust.

Nice quote from a mysterious Lions defender:
“Can you believe ’15’? Come on – that’s embarrassing. I mean, it’s a joke. We knew all week that if we brought any kind of defensive pressure, he couldn’t do anything. In the second half it got boring out there. We were like, ‘Come on – that’s your quarterback? Seriously?”
– Unnamed Detroit Lions defender
Unfortunately, I think that this kid might get destroyed in the process of 'finding out' if he's Denver's QB of the future. Josh McDaniels' should be ashamed. He caused this.

Bust is a bit of an exaggeration but he certainly hasn't live up to his first overall billing. The best thing he did for the Bengals was fetch the return he did from Oakland

I think playoff wins and appearances are a pretty good way of judging QBs at the NFL level. I've never questioned Carrol's ability to recruit great college QBs.

I don't think there is one particular school that you can guarantee to find an elite QB from, but there certainly seem to be some you should definitely avoid with high first round picks, and USC and Florida are right at the top of that list.

Dis, in fairness, Tebow would have had the hype follow him where ever he ended up, regardless of being a 1st rounder or not.

I don't know. Say he gets taken in the 5th round by a team with an established QB. Green Bay, Atlanta, New England.
There wouldn't have been a push from a dillusional fan base to get the guy in a starting role so quickly.
I don't even think the Broncos necessarily made the wrong decision by benching Orton in Tebow's favor, but it is clear he would have benefited greatly by watching and learning and working on that throwing motion for a few years before that shot comes.
This is going to be his one shot. I can't see him getting another, though I think he has value at another position.

Dan Fouts!
I think QB production has little to do with college coaching. I don't think it matters which school they go to. If they've got it, they've got it.
Look at the diversity of schools that are represented by the greatest QB's in NFL history:
Stanford
Notre Dame
Navy
Southern Miss
Louisiana Tech
Michigan
Tennessee
Miami
Pitt
Oregon
Many of those schools haven't put another decent QB in the NFL at all.

You can come up with a list for almost any major school...which is why the argument to stay away from one school who has a history of producing NFL qb's so ridiculous.

I hate the Chargers with a passion, but I think Fouts is the most underrated QB in NFL history. IMO, the greatest example of a pocket passer ever.

Ugh...speaking of which, Cal is a school that has produced its fair share of duds at the QB position....and using the above logic, rodgers should never have been picked

Yeah...thsi crew is having a bad bad night...that call on gates was just goofy as was that earlier unnecessary roughing call on the SD CB who did nothing but put his shoulder on a guy who caught the ball....really bad calls both of them.

As a Chargers fan, this game is driving me nuts. KC should be up 30-3 if it weren't for two challenges that for some god forsaken reason went our way. Philip Rivers needs to take his head out of his gutter and start playing like he normally does. Mathews needs to hold onto the ball, and the offense needs to start taking the crowd out of it. This team is as hard to cheer for as the Flames are
