Is it too early to lay down grass/clover seed? Want to take advantage of this rainy forecast next week but I think it's still pretty chilly overnight...
I put a bunch of seed down two weeks ago and it's starting to germinate already. I'm not sure if it's "too early" but it appears to be working for me.

Decided to pull the trigger this year on the “maintenance free” front yard. We did two years ago to our backyard and absolutely love it. Hopefully it works out for the front yard and looks good. No more watering or mowing lawns for me.
We were also looking into urban beekeeping, anyone do this here at CP?

Do any of you dethatch your lawns in spring? I have a lawn that hasn't been well maintained and I think removing the dense thatch would only help but I'm not sure when is the right time to do it. Is this still too early? I know you are supposed to fertilize after so I'm thinking I shouldn't wait too long.
You want to get to it before fresh growth gets too active, so it really depends on your lawn if it is too late or not. Mine would still be fine to do at this point, I do it every 2 or 3 years because I'm lazy.

I usually do every Spring when it stops negative temps over night. Did this year almost 3 weeks ago and then fertilized and seeded before that last wave of light snow. Also reseeded again last Wednesday before the rain and then I watered a fair amount Thurs, Friday and Sat morning. I do this process most years and works great. I rarely have to water after May long when i do it this way.
FYI, I have hand spreader I use and a mulch blade on mower and do not pick up my clippings throughout the year.
I put in fake flowers in my planters this year. I have nice ones from silk plant warehouse hanging on my fence, but they're too expensive for filling all my planters. Amazon has some nice ones that look really good. Cheaper than real and no watering worries. Super stoked.

I am thinking about pulling the front lawn out. Ive already taken some out and built a stone patio and a new pathway. What did you use? Is it just mulch or what? Native plants, drought tolerant shrubs? I need some info.
I don't trust GoC weather forecasts past three days.
TWN says possible below zero temps this weekend.
Yeah looks like forecasts are pretty variable for Saturday, Environment Canada (which I had looked at) says low of +4, Accuweather +2, and Weather Network -1.
When I had a lawn, I usually dethatched and aerated at the same time. Makes the lawn breathable, and I would do no later than early May.
I would plant annuals now, it really comes down to frost. If there is just a snowfall, I think it would be fine, assuming it's not too heavy and melts quickly.
