I was not happy that Pelletier was a part of the trade - I think he was turning into an important player for the team, and I hope the Flames haven’t given away another Martin St Louis.

Remember St. Louis was 25 when he moved on from Calgary. St. Louis is probably more like the guys coming from Philadelphia.

But that can't be, because it's only players who leave the Flames who ever get better. This is why, for instance, Lindholm was never anything more than a middle-six winger.

(People don't understand just how impressive Gaudreau and Tkachuk were. They each put up over 100 points, playing with no centre at all.)

Got to love a hot take. I’d be mad for the Flames but happy for Pelletier as he seems like a great dude. There’s not much in comparison to St Louis though besides being short. That dude is jacked.

They haven’t…… people had the same worry with Matthew Phillips

That’s not the issue - I’m fine with the players coming to Calgary, although a St Louis upside for either is quite a stretch, given the amount of playing time they have been given in Philadelphia vs what St Louis got in Calgary.
I just liked Pelletier - as a small skilled player he looked like he was starting to get comfortable in the NHL, and it would have been nice to see him develop here.

If you had said Paul Byron I don’t think you would have gotten much pushback. That’s probably his actual upside.

I hated losing Pelletier, I like the deal overall. But it would have been nice to keep Jakob too. Hopefully, the kid keeps progressing.

Why are you framing it as an "outburst".
Showing emotions doesn't mean it's an outburst.
If it is that's OK too, but the fact you are framing it that way is telling.

Edit: And you say who cares but you were perfectly willing to judge him based on knowing next to nothing about the situation. Which is the problem. Men who show emotions are judged by people like you who are holding on to some toxic and archaic notion of what it means to be "a man" and what should be allowed emotionally. Yuck.

In fact, people being concerned about how much emotion I showed as a kid, and telling me to tone it down, did way more harm to me in the long term that I'm still undoing at almost 40.

Letting yourself feel things is important

British stiff upper lip eh?

No one wonder so many white people need therapy.

Yup. This is based on a second hand description of his reaction as well. I doubt it was dramatic.

Lol I don't think this a race issue. Rather some outdated notion of what a man is. Back when we were sending 18 year olds to die in back to back world wars, this type of cold, emotionless, mindset was probably an asset. Times change, society evolves, and along with it gender roles do too.

Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't we all piling on one of the Canucks or Oilers players for crying on the bench in last years playoffs?
This outpouring of support for men showing emotion would carry a lot more weigh if the person we were talking about wasn't a Flame/recently traded Flame.

Were "we" all? Or was it a few putzes?
