The entire Wildrose crossed the floor and how many of their political careers are still at risk? It's not none, but it's not everyone, but there's some precedent for it.
Politics has been changing rapidly in the last decade. Floor crossing might not be as huge of a political suicide as it was in the past. Things are now crazier and people more accepting or wiling to forget certain different things now.
And MLAs may do it to save their career if Smith decides to drag everyone in an undesirable direction. The bizarre aspect to this is that they might be saving their careers by crossing the floor. Not automatically killing it.
Again, I'm not saying it's an inevitability. It's a strange environment where it's a long shot possibility that cannot be ignored.
Lots of Albertans did not feel well represented by either Smith or Notley. Ask around. Whether you voted UCP or NDP, many of of us might have more commonalities than the aspects we feel represent us under the UCP or NDP banner. There are a lot of A lot of us that strategically voted or protest voted and many likely kept voting the same because it was the devil they know vs the devil they don't know out of fear. We are all Albertans. The more we go, "US vs THEM" the more we all cede our powers to the political leaders. Some of us might have a good relationship and like our MLA, but hate the party leader.
Based on what happens from this point out, the next election might be ripe for the re-creation of other parties to take seats that Albertans will feel better represent them than the UCP or NDP. Furthermore, if we all do our part and reinforcing cultural, ethical, economical etc. divides, the more likely we all benefit.
IMO, we should not rely solely on politics to improve things. IMO it is our civic duty to be the change we wish to see happen in the world. I might get blown out of the water for this opinion and be considered unrealistic, but I honest to God believe this and I do what I can to try and implement this. Politics is not my arena. I'll take all the losses, bow out and go do what I believe is right vs engaging in (IMO) pointless battles and banter and waste my time and energy there.
Our province is much better off with more "How are you? I appreciate that you voted and is there a way we can make each other feel appreciated today?" vs "Go #### yourself! You're part of everything that's wrong!"
