Theoretically, the seeding is based on previous year's performance, so if Ottawa fails, then Halifax would get that round three entry under this format and Ottawa would have to enter in the second round.

This whole "MLS to Calgary" is nothing more than aimless hype, trying to distract from a Calgary team that actually exists, on a day when more eyes are on that team than normal.
MLS has no interest in expanding further into Canada, their commissioner has said so publicly for years. Their league has dozens of markets in the US who are banging down the door for MLS and have the money to back it up (Indianapolis, Tampa Bay, Sacramento, Detroit, St. Louis, Phoenix, San Antonio, Raleigh among others). MLS have their 3 markets that they can extract significant money from, they don't need or want any additional markets in Canada, especially those without a history of supporting the game.
In addition to this, the CSA has no interest in granting sanctioning for any additional men's clubs to play in US based leagues. CONCACAF has no interest in granting sanctioning to any additional Canadian clubs to play in US based leagues.

Thoughts with the club are that Whitecaps may not rotate their lineup a ton given they got trounced by LA this past weekend. Could see a strong starting 11 for them.
Anyone look into those re-released tickets recently and know if any are still available? Might try to snag one. The club didn't respond to any of our three emails requesting group tickets for my soccer team. :/

Calgary is probably not in the top 40 of largest markets in the US and Canada? I'm not sure where it ranks if you remove Central American cities from this list:

Is that documented anywhere? Not that I don't believe you, but just curious of the format/criteria now that it has reached this size. Remember when it was 3 teams over and over and over again?
I assume that MLS clubs would continue to get byes until the semis (which I am perfectly fine with). So even if (when!) Cavalry defeats the Whitecaps over two legs, we won't be seeing the Whitecaps lose their semifinal berth for next year. (edit: or would we?)

Granted, I am extrapolating, but since Toronto got the semi-final bye explicitly as defending champion, and the round three entrants were all semi-finalists, it makes sense.
The reality is that they will likely be changing formats frequently anyway. Especially if 1-3 teams get added for next year.

That would put the region about 44th overall based on ours being the fourth largest in Canada, and this list for the US.

And, throw in the ever-present friction of the CSA, Concacaf, and the Ottawa Fury, anything could happen!
It really doesn't matter much in the big picture. Cavalry being seeded low wasn't a disadvantage or an impediment either. An extra couple of matches for CanPL teams is a good chance to rotate the squad, build some interest, etc.

How the FA Cup does it:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FA_Cup#The_draw
Quote:
Beginning in August, the competition proceeds as a knockout tournament throughout, consisting of twelve rounds, a semi-final and then a final, in May. A system of byes ensures clubs above Level 9 and 10 enter the competition at later stages. There is no seeding, the fixtures in each round being determined by a random draw. Prior to the fifth round, fixtures ending in a tie are replayed once only. The first six rounds are qualifiers, with the draws organised on a regional basis. The next six rounds are the "proper" rounds where all clubs are in one draw
|
Level 1 and 2 clubs enter in the 3rd "proper" round in January.

By 2026, I suspect Cavalry will be in their 12-20k seat stadium on the All Canada Ring (likely with at least one DP, lower third MLS revenues, and a league wide salary cap slowly approaching that of the CFL).
Only way this makes any sense is if Cavalry will be in a clear Div 2 USL or CanPL by then, or the whole league collapses/stagnates in the next few years.
I do believe that MLS is a bit worried that if CanPL grows to CFL levels in the next 7-10 years, Vancouver and Montreal might be receiving pressure from CONCACAF on their sanctioning... so may as well start destabilizing the league, undercutting the league, or set the stage to absorb the markets that seem primed to have the highest chance for long term success and viability for MLS. (Of course, some elements of MLS may be alright with the idea of Montreal and Vancouver having to sell their franchises to the highest bidding US markets and being forced into CanPL)
The other possibility is a Canada division of MLS with the existing 3 Canadian clubs, and maybe another 3-5 additional Canadian clubs, and this is a precursor step.
If Cavalry is stable, well supported, able to afford quality players to support the Canadian youth development model AND is competitive at a CONCACAF level, I would say either this hypothetical club would have to be Cavalry itself, or they would be taking a huge risk that fans don't accept the expansion club. Not sure the Flames (who else other than the Southerns) would want to drop the amount of cash for a MLS expansion team and want to compete with an existing known commodity that may already by then be playing (lower tier) MLS level football.

Anyone know how the pitch is doing? I believe there was horse jumping this past weekend and it has been wet. A poor pitch could be a great equalizer tonight

By 2026 the City might also have a completed indoor field-house/stadium. I wonder if Cavalry would play out of something like this at some point if it ever happened.

Extremely unlikely. The Southerns aren't going to put the money into the All Canada ring just to move the team elsewhere. That fieldhouse proposal would be tied to the separate MLS bid.

Ya that's fair. What is the timeline for the All Canada ring? Maybe they hold off in the short term while other plans get hashed out.

I think that's a safe bet to leave a little earlier, but unfortunately it will probably rule out our crew travelling from Tuscany on a weeknight after work (with enough time to properly patronize the establishment, of course).
That being said, it is a beautiful pub and we enjoyed our last jaunt there, so I would recommend it for tonight and future matches if your schedule permits. It is a proper supporters pub - signage, other CanPL or Voyageurs Cup matches on the screens, like-minded folk, etc.
EDIT: A second run at 7:00 is possible but not confirmed. I'll check later today and update as necessary.

Apparently there’s gonna be a bus from Kildare’s for the weekend games for the rest of the season as well!

Don't think there is one. It was said only that it was dependent on there being enough interest in the current 6000 seat facility. What their threshold is, and how much is independently dependent on how they re-develop it for show jumping as well I can't say.

Having been to Cavalry games on rainy crappy nights and glorious sunny days (I missed the snow) I'll still express what massive disappointment I would feel if they moved indoors.
I'm sure I'll grumble mildly for the final leg in November.
