The Raiders were the most interesting part of Boba Fett that wasn't The Mandalorian episodes they inserted in.
Would have much rather seen him gain power via the Raiders than the stupid Vespa Teens. It would have made way more sense too.
It felt like it was building to that and the fact that it ended up just being throwaway content was such a disappointment. Three episodes of flashbacks, montages and leadups to the Tuskans playing a central role.. and then just turning them into a McGuffin for vengeance against the bikers.
- A rolling "sandstorm" coming in while the fight rages on turns into a Bantha rampaging horde of raiders.
- Boba using them as his Guards instead of Gamorreans
- Building a trust and using their natural knowledge of Tatooine to defeat the spice traders.
Really felt like wasted storytelling which turned into lame duck episodes.
You could just watch his escape from the Sarlacc, robbed by Jawas and then go straight to finding Fennec and getting Slave 1 back and keep 95% of the narrative going forward.
It honestly feels like someone wrote the first 4 episodes for Boba Fett and then somebody wanted to push the Mando hype and forced them to shoehorn in Mando 2.5. I know they were all written by Favreau, but they just feel like 2 different series with 2 different intents.

Is there also a thought that maybe an outsider using an indigenous population as an army to mafia-like control of a city might not have been the most PC look? Could have been heading that way and they decided it didn't play very well.

You could be right, but using the indigenous army to fight off the greedy corporation was literally the last 45 mins of Phantom Menace. Swap the trade federation for the pyke, the gungans for the tuskans and Boba for the Jedi and its pretty much the same. I would have expected that to end in mutual respect between the Tuskans and Townsfolk instead of animosity. But yeah, that also came out 25 years ago so it might be that it wouldn't play well today either.

I think there's ways to do pretty much any scenario right. I don't think PC is a hindrance as much as it's a reality filter that needs to be considered when exploring a story. But when dealing with fictional/allegorical characters and species, you can cross a line without really realizing it. (IE Wado/Jar Jar in Phantom Menace).

Phantom Menace should not be the standard for what is and what isn't politically correct. Between the Gungans, Watto, and the Trade Federation, it might be the most racist movie since Dumbo.

Thats exactly what I mean. I don't think those things are necessarily purposeful as much as just engrained bias without a critical look. You could have exactly the same story, with those same characters, and not have them as stereotypes (at best). Just someone having the guts to tell Lucas that these are coming off a bit racist probably would have had them changed.

Sure, and I think what the first 3.5 episodes did was take the racist undertones that have always existed with the Tuskan Raider character (whether a Bedouin caricature, or a Na###o one) and expand the knowledge and culture of those people into more than just a racial trope. They knew of the racist undertones of that fictional species going into the series, and played to it anyways, and I think in a very respectful and engaging way. They weren't just savages that stole women and were slaughtered by the white man. (Thank Ani).
And then they took all of that good work at redefining the species to be more than just the Dumbo Crows and be a living part of the script. Turning them into allies and assisting Boba in his mission also would have moved them from just being saved by the white (Maori) savior, and made them more robust.
Instead, I feel the series just took all of the time to fill them out into a living breathing race of peoples (Like the work done to flesh out Wookies) and dropped with a quick wipe out and replaced them with a bunch of White Farmers from Freetown.
I don't know who was displeased. Was it too PC to make them more than a racial trope? Or were people unhappy that the show would be hitting too close to home about the way we have treated our own North American Indigenous peoples? I don't think it is the PC people that would be upset about a native people rising up to defend their land - quite the opposite.
Either way I feel a good story was lost and replaced with flashy new toys and cool callbacks.

Yeah I agree. I don't think there was any sort of spectator comments that made them change or anything. I would think it was a corporate decision to be proactive in case it wouldn't go over very well. I agree that it wouldn't have been viewed that way, just a little walking on eggshells.

put down the lightsabers and the Force, this is what I want as my next official Star Wars content. book readers (hey Cap) will especially appreciate this one.

Watched this yesterday after Eckhart's Ladder posted about it on his youtube channel. Awesome.
Also really showed that high class area of Corsuscant getting absolutely wrecked by the battle.
Yup typical of the Rebel Alliance, the so called Liberators of the Galaxy causing death and chaos where ever they went.
The true funny irony is with the events leading up to the Mandalorian and even the prequels. The Galaxy learned that it was probably better to live under the boot of the Empire then the corruption and pure suck of the republic
HA HA HA HA HA

Though if you look at the time line, its more likely that if we go by EU its more around Darth Tenebrus and his apprentice Plagueis as Sidious didn't become an apprentice til 67 bby.

I've been finding Star Wars less and less interesting as I get older. But I'd totally watch 90-120 minutes of a film like that.

probably a million people died just by the Lusankya turning its engines on. maybe 10x or more than that if you take into account how many layers of undercity it had to bust through to take off.
