This is not how .500 teams that are seven games back of the division lead are supposed to act, but the Blue Jays clearly don’t consider themselves to be a normal 51-51 team. GM Alex Anthopoulos is buying in, and clearly believes that Price and Tulowitzki are going to help carry the Jays through a huge second half and into the playoffs.
He has good reason to feel that way, too, because the Blue Jays aren’t a normal .500 team. Their run differential—the statistic that is most telling of a team’s true talent level—is sitting at +100, the best mark in baseball. Baseball Reference puts their Pythagorean record at 60-42, which would put them three games up on the first-place Yankees. Even before these trades happened, the Jays would have been a good pick to surge into the playoffs. Now that they’ve added the best shortstop in baseball to the league’s best offense and a top-tier starter to what was previously a middling rotation, they look like legitimate juggernauts. They Jays have everything they need to go out and #### #### up and hunt down the Yankees, and watching them try to do it is going to be fun as hell.

Reminds me of the David Cone trade. Hopefully we get the same result.

Uh oh. Sounds like he's ethn...I mean he's got attitude problems. Better ship him out with Bautista.

I don't care at all about the future. it has been over 20 years. Jays fans deserve more.
I'm not as knowledgeable about baseball as many on this site, but my half-ass view is that for the most part, the teams that compete, are those that go out and 'get' good players.
The teams that are constantly focused on the future rarely break out of that cycle.
There are exceptions, but that's what they are.

As a non-Jays fan, Tulo and Price are great additions but they still need to find another reliable starter and another arm for the pen. Land those things and they are a legit threat to do some damage.

I would think the Jays pen with the addition of Sanchez and Hawkins are fine.... Especially since they have added David Price, which will instantly reduce the innings for the pen.
Starting pitching with Hutchison is a concern.... he is very inconsistent to put in mildly.

Have to remember that even if Price walks
the Comp pick they would get has more value than Boyd and Labourt its basically a 1st round pick
so the trade essentially turns in to
Price going forward for Norris/Boyd/Labourt or rental Price + a 1st round pick, so they didnt exactly empty the system here

I heard there is no comp pick. Can't recall who said that. Mike Wilner maybe?

Yeah, there's no comp. pick involved in a mid-season acquisition unfortunately.

They changed the rule with last CBA on comp picks for players acquired mid season.
I do not know exactly how it changed though
