3. STL - 90 points
4. MIN - 87 pts

What would it look like if they ditched the loser point but kept the shoot out?

I don't really feel like doing that work - the point of that was that if you look ahead to the playoffs, there's no shootout, so that should provide at least a bit better sense than the current standings do of team quality in a non-shootout environment. There are no ties either or 4 on 4, obviously, so arguably just "60 minutes" records would also be good data on that point.

More important, this season’s success might inspire them to try to fast-track the patient rebuilding strategy they’ve been following, which could end up setting them back years. Flames fans may someday look back at this miracle season as the worst thing that could have happened to the club.
This is what Darryl said about going to the finals in 04. It made the upper management and owners believe nothing less than a playoff spot was a disaster and while patience was still needed to properly do a rebuild.

As if the OOT scoreboard wasn't enough, now other teams' rosters are joining in on the "no good news" fun. Toffoli not suspended; scores vs Rangers. Benn cleared to play for Dallas just in time for tonight. NHL-leading Habs decide to hand the Jets a freebie by sitting the league MVP.

Just awesome!

That would just be a simple Win/Loss record, so the Flames 40 wins would have them 2 games up on Winnipeg and 4 up on LA.

That's brutal. Not back to back.
Tokarski did play fantastic last time out, but...

The last 2 games of the season will probably decide whether or not we make the playoffs.

Just realised a win tonight puts us technically ahead of the Jets, too. That's huge.

Also: Love Haynes' post today:

http://flamesfrom80feet.blogspot.ca/...ry-flames.html

*This isn't the whole article, so I think it's allowed? Apologies if not.

"5 Signs You're a Flames Fan Caught up in the Playoff Race:

15. You've already been to the bottle depot four times this month.

14. You wake up in the middle of the night thinking about Deryk Engelland.

13. Everywhere you look -- the price of gas (95.9), the FM station you're listening to (96.9), what you actually see is the projected point total Calgary will need to make the playoffs.

12. You've cancelled your weekend camping reservations for all of May.

11. You couldn't care less about Connor McDavid.

10. You're looking forward to watching the Minnesota Wild play on a Tuesday.

9. You spend more time on NHL GameCenter than on Facebook.

8. You've replaced the Nieuwendyk name bar on your No. 25 Flames jersey with Bollig.

7. Your lotto 649 numbers this week are 4, 7, 13, 17, 23, 24

6. You can't remember your wedding anniversary but without hesitation can recite the remaining schedules for the Kings, Jets, Wild and Canucks.

5. You're agitated, emotionally unstable, sleep deprived and your nerves are shot... and that's the good news.

4. The last five entries in your Google search history are:
Torn biceps tendon recovery time
Kingston Frontenacs playoff schedule
Hotels near Rogers Arena
Where to buy a fire helmet
Has Devan Dubnyk ever had the mumps

3. You're cheering for the Edmonton Oilers.

2. You understand Pat Steinberg's Flames magic number and can also explain it to others.

1. You can't get Evanescence out of your head.
(Flames intro song, circa 2004 playoffs)"

Add: Your work productivity is non-existent.

Hence why a Jets regulation loss last night was the (slightly) preferable outcome for the Flames. The more opportunity to put more teams in the rear view mirror, the better - only have to beat one of 'em.

Agreed. Even though it is wrong on every level to cheer for Vancouver.

I wish the Flames luck, as Calgary is the team I want to see in the playoffs, rather than LA or Vancouver. I want the Jets to make the playoffs by winning games, not by other teams losing. Calgary will catch Vancouver.

ex- Winnipeg Jet defenseman Serge Savard doing his bit to help the Jets?

Savard was special adviser to Canadien owner picking GM Marc Bergevin.

"Hey Marc those poor folks in Winnipeg have suffered enough, maybe Price needs a rest"

Totally joking
