So for exotic gear you'll want to keep an eye out for Mask of the Third Man, Lucky Raspberry, Don't Touch Me and for gunslinger, Aclyophage Symbiote. You can potentially this from Xur on Friday/Saturday with strange coins. Doing the weekly heroic would be pretty handy because there's match making for all of the difficulties, and you're paired up people of similar levels.

Raid, no match making so you'll have to use 3rd party sites like destinylfg.net and r/fireteams on reddit. What console do you play on? I know most of us are on PS4 here.

I faced the same issue as you when I first started, and still have yet to get a single piece of raid gear. With that said, I'm a lvl 31 and got there by fulling leveling the faction chest, gloves, boots, and buying an exotic helm from Xur.

Yeah, I didn't realize each faction's gear had "focus" until I started looking at the gear they had in depth. I was working on new monarchy, which still isn't terrible, but I think FWC is probably better. Hard to say through, as I'm sure I'll flip back and forth between bladedancer and gunslinger and having a short cooldown for the melee could be good once I get knife juggler.

I switch between blade dancer for pvp and gunslinger for pve, and the difference in gear is not material to my gameplay style.

In PVE, you shouldn't be up close and personal very often anyways, so melee becomes very situational.

Just an FYI for the factions... you need crucible marks to buy any of that gear, and crucible commendations. As with the Vanguard stuff you just need the marks and commendations from them.

When I started I just bought the Vanguard stuff when I had enough as the marks were easier to come by.

Factions level up a little quicker because both crucible rank and vanguard rank goes to that particular faction when wearing their corresponding cloak.

When I started, which was after the dark below release, my buddy and I just got to 20, grinded out strikes and such for marks, bought the gear and slowly got to level 30/31. Just need to get your vanguard rank to 3 so you can buy gear and weapons and then move to factions if you want. I have most of them to level 3, and am leveling dead orbit now because I want the shaders.. possibly the ship

Yeah, to add to that I'd probably recommend going with Vanguard/Crucible because of how limited factions in accepting Crucible currency only whereas it's easier to get Vanguard marks. If Crucible/Vanguard is at at least rank 3, then you can start to focus on a faction.

Leveling up the factions is a self fulfilling prophecy though.

The more you play crucible, the more marks, the more rep, the more bounties get completed etc.

I guess it is a bit different for me since I enjoy the PVP more than PVE.

No new Raid.

House of Wolves will not have a Raid activity. We didn't make this decision lightly. Our team has been humbled by the reception of Raids in Destiny and we are creating a new Raid for a release later this year. House of Wolves will have a new cooperative end game activity focused on variety, replayability, and skill – a new battle Arena called The Prison of Elders.

Kind of disappointing with no raid but can only hope that the arena activity they've invested in is worth the absence of an official raid.
Would have liked the ability to do a max 6 man fireteam where the difficulty scales with the number of people you have. That way, whether you have 4 or 5 friends, you won't necessarily need to look for randoms for PvE content.

Looks like you can carry over your legendaries from 300/333 to 365. Feels a little more like recycling the same old content (Fatebringers in everybody's loadout!...again) it does make better use of older content for the general public and newer audience where going through previous raids is still desirable if they don't have those weapons. Technically more choice, even if it was a previously available choice is a good thing. Already bought the season pass so won't kill me to try it when it's out. That being said, who's up for some Horde mode day 1?

Exceptionally disappointed that there won't be a new raid.
Even more of a cash grab? I can't imagine they'll just drop a raid between DLCs with no cost attached.
This is going to really submarine the franchise, as I think most people are viewing House of Wolves as a make-or-break. Who knows, maybe the prison of elders will be better than it sounds.

Yikes. I hope they know what they're doing... because as far as I can tell a new raid is what the entire community is pining for. If the new content doesn't cut it, I may have to drop out of Destiny until Comet.

So I've had time to think about this, and I think the lack of a raid is NOT the worst thing to happen.

I want to give Bungie the benefit of the doubt and say they want another VoG and not another CE. VoG was fun, it was intricate. It had more than shooting and hiding. Each encounter was unique, with a different aspect to what needs to happen. Oracles, portals, legions. It has great back story, it was led into nicely through the game's minimal story.

Crota's End was... boring. Shoot something. Run and shoot. Run and shoot more. Run and shoot that shrieker. Run and shoot the Swordbearer. Run and shoot the ogre. Run and shoot the thralls. Run and shoot. Too hard? Cheese it. Things going smoothly? Sword disappeared.

And the flak they did get for this. It's ongoing to this day. Instead of dumping this next raid out with the exact same issues, they have hopefully realized this will impact the game far more negatively than delaying the next raid's release.

Instead, give us a change up. Give us something we may not have expected. A horde mode with a unique twist? K, ####in' A.

Downside to this is we will likely be paying another $30 - $60 for the next Raid. But deal with that bone when it comes up.

Massive patch today. Lots of changes for PvP and PvE. Will be interesting to see how the decreased special ammo supply changes the Crucible. Raid issues were addressed for the most part.

I think it will be a nice change, and more in-line with how a FPS like Halo is played in PVP.

Special weapons are power weapons, full stop. To have unlimited sniper, shotgun, fusion ammo tilts the game towards utilizing those weapons almost exclusively.

This will tilt the crucible towards primary / grenade gameplay, and map control when ammo spawns are dropping (As opposed to mindless sprinting with Felwinter's everywhere).

I'm looking forward to it, I'm a ranged player as it is and use my primary more than anything. This will make the crucible more team work and map control focused, which is a good thing in my mind.
