Also, can anyone figure out the sliders on the strategy screen? In previous years you would slide it to one extreme or the other (Carry vs Dump), but now it's all jumbled up. Is it incremental or still on a scale? For example, if I want my line to carry the puck in do I slide it all the way to the right or to the left towards the 'Carry' indicator?

You can permanently change your strategies (D setup, PP setup, type of forecheck etc.) It's in the same menu area as the sliders.

100% disagree. After starting with the default All-star sliders I was constantly having games with at least 10 or more total goals. After decreasing the shot power and accuracy and increasing goalie quickness, the highest scoring game I've had is 4-3. It also helps to have a collapsing D and as a previous poster mentioned, letting the D control themselves and using a forward to deflect/intercept the cross crease passes the CPU is addicted to, has made it very realistic for me. I also rarely go for a big hit and I let the opposing team skate around in my own end as long as they stick to the perimeter and I am a shot blocking machine. Since tweaking the strategy and sliders I've had realistic outcomes:
Loss to MTL 4-1 (outshot them 33-24, Price was a beast.
Beat TB 3-2 in OT after tieing it up with 7 seconds left with the goalie pulled.
Beat CAR 2-0 (Hiller was solid stopping 21 shots.
Lost to NSH 4-3 in a SO, but came back from being down 3-1 in the 3rd.
Was also able to trade D. Jones and Byron to MTL for a 1st and a 2nd.

I also like that if I don't play positonally and try to run around making big hits, it ends up costing me. I have to be more structured in my defensive play.
So far this sucky game (and it does suck in many ways) is keeping me coming back more than any of the last few efforts.
The biggest problem is it just feels unfinished.
Oh, and just to re-iterate, the commentary is insultingly bad, its actually hard to listen to at times. "Recoiling"? "waffleboarding"? WTF?
|
I think the commentary is going to get old real quick - it's already getting on my nerves. For all the hype, it's pretty bad. Too bad because they got good people.

It's in Manage Rosters where you edit your lines. On the right side of the screen, its the top right square among the four titled CAPTAINS AND JERSEYS

Is there any way to change your jersey number in the Be A Pro menu?
I haven't located it. Haven't tried SUPER hard, but haven't spotted it yet.

Tried this game last night for the first time. Played the LAK vs NYR game, I suck balls at this game..always going for the bit hit which ends up costing me because they will usually score on me haha. Was winning 3-1, started going big hits, chasing puck and leaving open players then I lost 6-4 haha. Terrible. I need to learn to stay in position more but I do love chasing people down and crushing them.

Yeah there's a lot of repetition. Personally I'm still happy they changed it. The old one was getting really stale. Sometimes change for the sake of change isn't a bad thing.
IIRC the first year of Bill & Gary was awful too but got better as they added more.

Sorry I was mistaken, however when you change your strategy/setup at the same time you can change jerseys/edit lines etc. before the actual game starts, the settings should stay permanent game to game. Mine does.

Neither does mine. I have to re-set my preferred strategies each and every game.

Yes.
But ugh, I really need to stop playing this game before I give myself an aneurysm. What a wretched piece of garbage.

Ugh. The amount of chintzy penalty calls I get against HUT teams who's base team is Vancouver is ridiculous.

Any tips on how to play this game against the CPU? Basically, it seems to go into an unstoppable scoring cycle when the stats are in it's favour. One ounce of being out of position and the get a one-timer.
The CPU players seem unstoppable, yet, the amount of time you get on offence and how easily your players are bowled over doesn't seem comparative unless the CPU puts you in a scoring cycle. This scoring cycle seems heightened in this game and can only be stopped by being in position and poke checking or stick lifting. Checking is useless on defense.

don't go for big hits. don't blast poke checks and get yourself out of position.
it's not all that much fun, but basically always ensure you have a man between the puck carrier and your net (ie. "stay goalside"), and bad things won't happen. If you lack discipline and are tempted to go for big hits or overplay the puck carrier, try controlling your forward/center, and leave the d to be played by the CPU. You can roam a bit more freely, and run around a bit without leaving yourself too vulnerable as the cpu d is usually a safe play..
I find this has worked for the most part against offline CPU. it works 10-fold when you go online
