But Reinhart doesn't seem like a generational talent either. The top 4 seem very close which may mean it comes down to team needs. 4/5 of the worst teams in the league clearly have a greater need for a 1st pairing defenceman rather than a centre.

I think the gap starts after the top 5 guys. Dal Colle gets penalized a bit because of his position... but I think the drop-off is after him.

There hasn't been a generational talent in the last 8 drafts. Reinhart definitely isn't like Ekblad isn't, but that's a pretty unreasonable expectation to hold.

I hate how much Dal Colle disappointed me at the top prospects game. It's the only time I've seen him, so I realize it doesn't mean much, but he just seemed to constantly get out worked and struggled to make the smart play. If he can't perform at a high level against the best players in the CHL...

Would like to see more of him. Must have just been a bad game.

Draisatl was a non-factor in the top prospects game, so not sure if you can really judge based on one game.

I suspect that Point on the hockey side will put up numbers like an undersized Warriors prospect who played a bit for the Flames at one time, but in any event he will be an NHL player regardless of size.

Is anyone else concerned we are too heavy on forwards?

Monahan, Baertschi, Gaudreau, Klimchuk, Porier, and now maybe Bennett/Draisdalt.

Why not drop down and get Hayden Fleury?

Flames won't be trading down. It's as close to a guarantee as you can get.

Nooooooooooooooo

Klimchuk and Poirier have proven nothing. Gaudreau is incredibly skilled, but still question marks. Baertschi arguably took a step backwards this year.

Monahan is looking like the only safe bet at this point.

And I would never, ever, trade down from a top 5 pick.

One... one... one of those guys is proven and is only 19. Yes, those guys all look good but most guys do before they ever play a pro game.

12 forwards on a team
6 defense
2 goalers

One should be loading up on that position anyways, no?

If too many forwards pan out well, we can always trade them

Drafting because of positional need would be a terrible strategy. Just pick the best players and let it sort itself out.

We need more size.... I would like to grab Ritchie if we're in the 6-8 spot.

And if we do somehow get the number 1 spot.. I am a 55/45 on Reinhart right now.

Flames need to outsuck one of the Oilers or Panthers to get into the top 3.

So for that very reason, the guy I want most is Ekblad, if only to see their mullets deflated.
Ekblad isn't even on par with Seth Jones.

He's a big right hand shot d-man who has been hyped ever since he got the Exceptional Status in the OHL and for sure is going to be a solid defenseman but probably doesn't project to be a franchise cornerstone.

Would still like to draft him but as usual Oilers fans are over-hyping one of their (soon-to-be) own.

Wow, Reinhart might drop to us at 4. Need the Sabres to take Ekblad so the Oilers take Draisaitl ... then we're cooking with gas!

Draisatl poised to become highest drafted German

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=7...id=DL|NHL|home

Quote:
"You want to talk about a miniature Jaromir Jagr with a Doug Gilmour-type intensity, you've got him right here," Central Scouting's Peter Sullivan told NHL.com.
Quote:
Central Scouting's Chris Bordeleau said Draisaitl could be the most surprising player of this year's draft class.

"That kid works so hard every shift," Bordeleau said. "I don't see how this kid doesn't go early. There's no one in this draft class who can protect the puck like him."

NHL Director of Central Scouting Dan Marr said a good comparison for Draisaitl might be James van Riemsdyk of the Toronto Maple Leafs or Anze Kopitar of the Los Angeles Kings.
Quote:
"Draisaitl does it all for his team; he's displayed a willingness to compete and be a difference maker game in and game out," Central Scouting's B.J. MacDonald said. "He's got good power and size. I feel he's also had to overcome more and work harder than most players."
I have only seen him play at the prospects game, so it was a bit surprising to read this stuff about his work ethic and intensity.
