Again, they may not allow liquor stores to sell weed in which case I will go get my box of beer and 2 bottles of wine, leave that store and drive the 2 blocks to the weed store and get my ounce of sativa. How did that prevent ANYTHING?
Its bureaucracy at its finest and with the gang of fools steering the ship here, surprises me not at all.

It's not about preventing people from carrying both. It's about making a defined statement that the two shouldn't be mixed from the people legally distributing the product.
I don't understand the outrage that weed wont be available in the liquor store. Are cigarettes? Are bananas? Computer parts? The only thing you can get at the liquor store is liquor and things to mix it with.
As an avid weed user I don't want the weed in the liquor store, no more than I want bike parts from the pizza place. Bbecause the free market tells me there will be a store within (as you said) a couple blocks. Or possibly even within the same shopping centre. And at that store there will be people who know about the product and can talk intelligently with me about it, which is one of the biggest advantages of legalization.

It would be cool if they sold liquor and weed together. Would be great to get some advice on nice pairings.

Ditch weed. I think Sliver is looking for a nice purple haze and a zinfandel.

People are really making an odd assumption that by the government forcing separate stores we will have a higher quality staff. That really doesn't make sense.
Does anyone trust someone at the superstore liquor store to stock, or have knowledge about various kinds of craft beer? They certainly don't have the knowledge at the one I frequent. But if I go to co-op they are a little better depending on who is there and if I go to the CP beer store you get very knowledgeable service.
The stand alone superstore weed store or weed barn is going to have cheep generic product with a minimum wage staff with little to no knowledge. The boutique stores will have better product and knowledge. Whether or not they also sell oranges or beer at the weed store will not change it. The market (presuming it is allowed to) will set the price, selection and quality of service.
The current spectrum of boutique liquor stores to liquor barn are well equipped to handle what the market will deliver. And the owners who are interested in expanding will hire staff with the knowledge the market wants.
I do agree about keeping the recreational product out of pharmacies and only having a medically prescribed product sold there.

I'm most concerned about a lack of cafes.
I'm going to vegas in a few weeks, where weed is now legal, but there's no place to smoke it because they won't allow cafes to open up. And since casinos are federally regulated, they are totally against it.
Now, I don't exactly need to be able to light up a joint while playing blackjack or smoke a big fatty while walking the strip and using edibles would easily make it pretty easy to consume at my leisure, but why not make it easier for tourists like me? Part of the reason they did this was for the tourism attraction.
I'd love to be able to go hang out at a cafe and do a bit of tasting of a few different strains. I'd especially love it if they were allowed to sell booze and some munchies while they're at it.

But don't different strains actually give you different feelings in addition to having different flavours? Seems like there's more discussion to be had comparing different strains versus alcohol since the high from alcohol is the same regardless of what you drink.
The guys that prattle on about alcohol crack me up. They're just talking about the way something tastes, which is really boring and sounds pretentious every single time. Weed guys talk about the taste and the emotional experience, which I find more interesting.

Will be interesting to see how the rental market handles this. I’d say a lot of people will be upset when their landlords prohibit both smoking and growing. Would not be shocked to see condo boards do the same as well.

You boozers crack me up when you discuss wine or whisky like it is marijuana.
