Yeah, it's ridiculous, but for the last year and a half or so if you actually request a cancellation they'll give you super low prices to stay. The simplest/safest way to do it is:
1) Request a cancellation date well into the future (a month or so).
2) They'll likely offer you a deal to stay, but it won't be their best, so proceed with the cancellation request.
3) They'll likely email you or call you to put you in contact with their retentions department in a last ditch effort to keep you. That's when they bring out the $50-60 plans with several hundred dollars in bill credits.
4) If #3 doesn't happen, you can either rescind the cancellation request and stay with them at whatever their best offer was, or change to a different provider.

My Rogers/Shaw bill has gone up (now $15.XX more per month) each of the past 2 months even though I signed a new 2 year contract in January. I just sent an e-mail to Rogers management for an explanation, a support rep told me it was because the prices went up on my rental equipment which is BS. Should I not be price protected during my contract? I never had price increases with Shaw during my contract periods.

Rental equipment, some of which you can't own, has gone up. The way the contract wording is structured, rental equipment is part of the value add and is not protected by agreed upon price.
Bottom line is that this merger should never have been allowed to happen.

I just had a quick breeze of my bill and saw the dialogue which states my additional 2 Ignite box rentals have gone up $7.00 each per month. I never read my bill as it's typically always the same. What a greasy way of conducting business. I did mention that we have 4 mobile users in our household right now who are attached to Telus/Koodo month to month and Rogers has no way of earning our mobile business if this is how they do things. What prevents them from upping the price even more? Rogers is such a ####ty company.

It's greasy I know but it also works, a lot of people don't pay attention to their bills to that degree and with auto payments and contracts, clients are a lot more "sticky" which leads to less client churn over the year.
Bottom line is that this was a disaster of a deal for Canadians. 2 families are getting wealthier to another degree, the proper government officials were for sure paid off and Canadians are left holding the bag. We are then left paying hundreds a dollars a year in rental fee's for a little box that has maybe $100 in value.

I am not the most technical guy here but I use a Firestick for Netflix and another streaming service.
If someone only watches a few steaming services than I think a Firestick works great. If you want streaming plus multiple news, sports, specialty channels and a lot more I think it get's a little more complicated and expensive through a Firestick. It doesn't have the fluidity of cable to go in and out of an app to the same level that switching channels on cable does.
I am not on Ignite TV and I hope I can delay it a lot longer but a lot of people are wondering exactly what you are. What is the actual purpose of this thing? I really don't know but I would assume Rogers get's a little cut of people who subscribe to various streaming services through that platform, makes cable clients a little stickier and who knows what data they sell.

I don’t love the Firestick personally, but my parents have one and it seems to work well for them so it’s worth looking into.
From what I’ve seen, it basically gives you all of the functionality of the Rogers box. You can stream live TV, record shows to watch later, and access all the On Demand content. Plus, you get access to all the apps (Netflix, Crave, Sportsnet, etc) so you can access a lot of content directly from the app you want instead of going through the Ignite app.
They range in price, with the 4K one being the most at $60 right now (I think it’s $30 and $40 for the two cheaper ones). So, it’ll take a few months, but you’ll eventually break even on it and then you’re laughing with a much better streaming box than Rogers offers and no monthly rental fee.

I have 3 boxes (no rental increase yet), but a renegotiation looming in November. I only really need/use 1 box, so I may cut the others loose if they are going to be greasy about it. And they will be. The only reason I have 3 is because it was an add-on during my last negotiation that didn't cost extra, but if it is going to cost me, they're gone.
The Firestick app is actually pretty adequate. I'll still keep a single cable box on my main TV I think, but for the secondary and tertiary ones, I can either do without or use the Firestick.
The iPhone/iPad app also does Airplay, and if I am not mistaken, Chromecast (I don't have Chromecast though). Not a smooth solution for everyday use, but in a pinch, it does the job.

Got my new Shaw Ignite boxes. Overall a pretty seamless straightforward install and integration. They automatically picked up and attached themselves to the Ignite router. Activation was automatic. The biggest thing to figure out is where all the new channels are; and as my wife pointed out, the show guide menu now scrolls in the opposite way, which will take a bit getting used to. Setting up shows to record is pretty easy, and the system guides you along with options. I've kept the old Gateway hooked up for now so that we can still watch the stuff that is recorded on its HDD.

I found setting up the guide with favorite channels, then making that the default view in the settings menu was a big help. So many channels I have no interest in ever watching.

In the channel guide make sure you switch it to only show the channels you have as part of your package, "Free to Me", otherwise you have to scroll through all the channels.

Had my first hiccup with Lightspeed internet.
I can't watch regional Flames games on Sportsnet because it thinks I'm on Vancouver. Of course there are work arounds to the Sportsnet app on my TV but it's been a minor inconvenience.

Rogers Ignite is now branded as Rogers Xfinity.
Shaw and Rogers have long used Comcast hardware, apps, etc. with Shaw/Rogers brand slapped on. But I guess their partnership is widening.
I don't think that this means much to us as consumers, but it was strange to see the American "Xfinity" on the latest app update.

With all the money I pay to Rogers-Shaw is it too much to ask for the sound to be synchronized with the video?

I don't know if this is a weird short term glitch but it seems like CNN has been dropped from my channel lineup. I haven't modified my cable package and I was watching CNN earlier this evening but now it says that a subscription is required to watch the channel.
