I'm usually "meh" on goalie masks. To me, they've become modern-day equivalent to airbrushed side panels of '70s-era Boogie Vans. The only clever one was Gerry Cheevers. And that's because he cut his teeth in the maskless era. Stitch marks was a brilliant idea, and that was the equipment manager with a marker.

I guess they look nice - I'm surprised all the Flames have to take the video is a potato.

All these tribute masks are cool in a way. It’s fun to see the classics back. However, I feel that there are very few simple and timeless designs these days. I echo what Reggie said about the 70’s Boogie Van vibe (but not quite as awesome). The most recent mask I truly liked was Quick’s Kings mask. Even his newer versions are a bit too busy for my tastes. Just my .02.

If every mask was simple, matte, and sans holograms, the league would be better for it.

Hahah, I agree. I don’t foresee goalies in 20 years doing a tribute mask to all these crazy, cluttered masks. Oh god, what if I’m wrong...

Why do they do that. It looks so stupid.
Edit: I'm not a dick, the thanks is back. It's not your fault DaveArt is a hack. My point is made.

I liked when goalies kept their general design but changed the colors/theme to match whatever team they were on.
Belfour (Chi, Dal, Tor), Potvin (Tor, Bos, LAK), and Joseph (St.L, Edm, Det) come to mind.
Mike Richter's NYR mask as to be considered one of the classics along with Brodeur's and Roy's Montreal one.
Hard to have classics these days when goalies seem to change their mask every year. Some even have home/away ones.

Pekka Rinne's and Tukka Rask's masks have largely been the same design with different takes.
Rinne's is usually some popculture reference mixed with the "predator" on the mask. But I agree, some more keeper masks would be cool.

I loathe Daveart and it drives me nuts how many goalies have gone to him. His masks are hideous. Reggies take of the side of a 70’s Volkswagen shaggin wagon spray painted fan is a very apt descriptor.
They are all so ugly with so much #### going on.
