Dude, that's not a scare tactic, that's an investment in transit safety. A scare tactic is using the media to tell people the train is unsafe, when it's mostly not. Are you normally this obtuse?

So why did they spend this money and put these resources to this? To back up their fearmongering?

Do you think they should have stepped up security on transit?

Toronto bumped up their presence on the TTC earlier this year, but due to costs, it only lasted about six weeks. This was due to a few random incidents in sequence. But removing their presence hasn't really seen any increase in incidents as far as we know since, at least not which is covered in the media.

Maybe bumping the police presence for the six weeks was all it took. Hopefully that’s the case here too.

Because investment in increased transit safety is a good thing, especially in a city that has a growing a transit system and population level? You can still ride transit today and for 99% of ridership it's business as normal, nothing eventful. C'mon man, these aren't mutually exclusive data points.
Here's a question for you - honestly, when was the last time you rode a train, and specifically to/from downtown?

I sometimes worry that a lot of guys here are like that crazy Nosehill “been to Stampede?” dude that was itching to pull a gun out because he was obviously so ingrained by so much media negativity and fear-mongering that he feared for his life when just being talked to.

But I would rather have a safe transit system and have people using drugs in an alley, instead of a transit system that ALL people feel safe using. Including 14 year old girls, nobody cares if a middle aged man feels safe on a train or not.

You’d think advocates for public transportation would understand this. If you want people using public transit, then C-Trains and transit stations are the very last places you should want drug use and mentally distressed homeless people hanging out.
And yeah, if there’s ever a time when “check your privilege” is appropriate, it’s when 35 year old dudes sneer at the notion of feeling unsafe in public spaces.

The “somebody think of the 14 year old girls!” is leaning a little heavy on the whattaboutism / appeal to emotion scale. I guess if your argument relies on infantilizing anyone that isn’t a middle aged man, maybe it works.
But yes, the vast swath 14 year old girls that regularly rely on the Ctrain should maybe be consulted on how they feel rather than assuming they are all weak and incapable of anything.
Anecdotally, just weeks ago, I dropped my 14 yr old daughter off with her friend at Dalhousie and they managed their way downtown to explore on their own. They also used the free fare zone and didn’t report any problems.

The solution to all of this is Tyler Shandro dressed up as Batman to keep the ctrain crime at bay. The hero we deserve.

That is the plan, but they will get to it in Due Course.
In Due Course is when they intend to execute that plan.
The plan will be acted upon in Due Course.

That is great. That’s the way it should be. What we are trying to avoid is when a 14 year old girl can’t go on the train alone. I don’t know why this is so difficult.

This right here is a grade 'A' conversation derailing comment. Can you imagine Shandro doing the Batman voice? Would he shave his mustache? Would it be the Adam West costume?

So of your exhaustive query of 14 year old girls, how many have stated they fear taking transit alone, and that is the only reason they don’t use transit?

None.
I’m glad that a 14 year old girl can take the train. That’s the idea.
Don’t want safety on the train to continue to deteriorate to the point that can’t.

How many 14 year old girls are taking the train/public transit every day without incident?
