Treliving missed out on ROR, I sure hope he doesn't miss out on Eichel too.

Of course, Eichel comes with neck injury concerns so that adds a wrinkle no doubt.

We will hear that Calgary was in on Eichel and almost had the deal but Buffalo liked someone elses more

I do agree with that point. If Buffalo doesn’t want Tkachuk because of how his contract is structured, I can’t see any way the flames could get Eichel. Flames don’t have the prospects that other teams possess to make it happen.

I’d prefer they say they never discussed it, rather than chalking up another public failure.

May I remind you who the GM is?

Three 1sts and a 2nd, does that seem unreasonable? I know Buffalo can get better, but unless the Rangers are offering LaFreniere or something, I’m sure the Sabres don’t want to send Eichel anywhere that could be perceived as “fun”.

Throw in Pelletier and we’re at four 1sts. The value is there, even if the sex appeal isn’t.
Way too much when the 1st is 12thOA.

If it was 25th or something like that, then sure.

It’s been SOP for this club since Feaster tried to give Brad Richards $70M.

It’s Jack Eichel.

Montreal is showing us exactly what happens when you ride goaltending and defense for four rounds.

If we don’t have at least an Eichel or two in our lineup, we will face someone like Tampa who has four or five of them.

Two Cinderellas never face each other, and Cinderellas never win.

So if all it takes is one extra asset or prospect from the system, pay the cost and find a way to replace a couple late 1sts with some shrewd scouting and European signings.

You especially overpay if you still have Monahan to trade away to recoup some capital.

Acquiring Eichel without giving up Gaudreau, Monahan, Lindholm, Mangiapane, Backlund, or a single piece of our analytically-stellar blue line is hardly setting us back

Making the Calgary Flames a sucky team to cheer for deserves a lifetime achievement award.

And? If you said I was the biggest Theo Fleury fanboy on here would I be offended? Ok, I will rephrase it, does anyone on here agree with Eric Francis more than you do? I am sorry if the phrase fanboy was out of line.

Technically I think the story will be that their ask of the Flames was so outrageous that it was a shrewd move to say no while also bidding up the price that one of our rivals end up paying.

There are things to criticize Treliving about, but I sure am not fussed about him being in the mix for a lot of deals, including ones that don’t work out. What should he do, just not try?

That’s not the point. Of course he should try although it would be good if he had a clear vision of what he wanted.

It’s more the rationalizing afterwards. The whole league will be in on Eichel so who really cares unless you’re the one that lands him.

I just don’t see that rationalizing. I do see people criticizing “of course he will be in on it but won’t get it done”.

Post 14684 is a good example of how some people feel about the Oileresque public discussions of what almost happened.

If a deal doesn't work out, is it really a 'failure'? How can any of us be sure? If the other GM's ask is unreasonable, is it a failure the Flames just didn't just hand over a blank cheque? Of all the trades Treliving hasn't made, how many do you think we actually know about? 10%? 20%?

Of course, because everything the Flames' management does is stupid, and everything they do not do is also stupid. It is known.

I haven’t used the term ‘failure’. You measure success by the performance of the team on the ice IMO, not the individual deals that did or didn’t happen.

It's not only inaccurate. It's an effort on your part to minimize my opinion by suggesting I "just agree with Francis".
I'd rather you know - talk hockey.
But my bad for engaging with you at all. I'll just stop that.
