What have they got wrong here? What facts are incorrect?
And if you think this is the same level of turd #### on "the other side" you are greatly mistaken. I'm not sure how you could possibly come to that conclusion, other than this unending need to say "both sides" even if one side doesn't have an unending misinformation factory fuelled by racist bigots.
Same thing though, totally.

Yeah I'm with Torture, that just looks like a general Google Ads thing, not a specific site

I mean it's not like they're funneling money straight to the Western Standard, it's going to Google, who is putting the ads in front of people that have political interests or live in Alberta, or whatever, and Western Standard happens to be a site where that's the case, and then Google is paying the Western Standard a few pennies per click or appearance. The decision to buy the ads probably wasn't even made by the UCP but by public servants.
These ads could just as easily be popping up on Calgary Puck, the Calgary Herald, or your Community Association's website.
There's so many things to be outraged at the UCP about but this one is a nothingburger.

Targeted prosecution units in Alberta’s major urban centres will help address deteriorating safety and keep Albertans safe from those who commit violent crimes. The Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) will create teams with expertise to focus on the increased level of crime and the prosecution of violent criminals in Edmonton and Calgary. Prosecutors on these teams will work with law enforcement to focus on specific issues affecting these communities, including drug houses and available social supports, and how these factors affect the amount and type of crime occurring.

Hrmm, I wonder if that applies to politicians...or is the safe haven still the Leg?

Also, if you commit a crime while the government also commits a crime(that they will never ever be punished for) relating to your crime, it nullifies your criminal case! What a system.

The streets can seem very, very frightening to those who never leave the comfort of their basements.

There are roughly 240,000 trips made on the Ctrain daily. There were a total of 86 criminal charges made in the whole month the police did their Ctrain crackdown blitz. The stats don’t support you here.

2 second search found this from May.
“Calgary commuter considers avoiding transit amid uptick in violence”
https://calgary.citynews.ca/2023/03/...nce-crime/amp/
It’s been in the news a ton in both cities. I doubt they are making it up.

Gosh. A couple of commuters “considered” not taking transit a couple of months ago. I guess those anecdotes settle the debate on how safe transit is, especially when you put that next to the 240,000 passenger trips made every day without incident.
Maybe we should write more stories about the vast number of people who have had safe, uneventful, positive journeys on the train though and then people wouldn’t be so scared all of the time. I know how fear mongering gets the clicks though and the engagement though. Who wants to hear about good things?

This sounded like a safe positive journey in July.
“Edmonton police urge caution on transit in wake of weekend violence capped by LRT killing”
“Alberta cannot wait any longer as we are seeing near daily random attacks on individuals simply going about their lives,” he wrote on Twitter.”

I'm definitely interested to see the 2023 statistics, because my own personal perception as a first responder is that violent crime hasn't seemed any worse than previous years. What we've seen is an increase in fraud and non violent incidents (Drug use, harassment, etc). Violent crime seems to have a magnifying glass on it because there's homeless people around making people feel more uncomfortable, and the media has really homed in on it.
"near daily random attacks" have always been a thing. I got mugged on the c-train in broad daylight in 2007, this isn't anything new. But like I said, I'll be curious to see the actual stats in a few months, I could be 1000% completely wrong here. I know the stats for last year showed violent crime was down in Calgary but a lot can change in 12 months

Yes, if you look up “Crime LRT Alberta” you will find something. Just like if I try to tell you how dangerous Burger Kings are, and I search for “Crime Burger King Alberta” and present my findings as evidence of that.
