I would add Sherwood as a high valued target for the combination of his hitting, scoring, and cap hit. A team can and will overpay for him. He may not score as well as he is in Vancouver due to his role, but hits are guarantees.

The gap between Kadri and O'Reilly is probably very small, if existing at all. That's probably the most challenging competitor we have to deal with in the trade market to extract best value for our players. IMO Andersson and Hughes are different trades.

There are a bunch of other pieces from Vanocuver and Nashville, but I would these are your 5 premium pieces rumoured to be moving this season. You can make an argument about the ranking in the last 3 spots. I think Coleman may draw the most interest out of those 3. O'Reilly has a much easier contract to move than Kadri does (shorter term, less money, and no protection). It will be interesting to see the prices as these moves happen. Hughes will be an interesting move - does another team other than NJ step-up with a big offer?
|
Brayden Schenn would likely nudge out Coleman based on position alone. And as the playoff picture firms up, several other Coleman-tier players could become available, like Anders Lee, J-G Pageau, and Alexander Wennberg.
But yeah, if Kadri does become available the Flames will have two of the top three assets on the market.

The Stars don't have anything interesting to trade us for Kadri. No real A grade prospects.

Dallas really gutted their assets for Rantanen and Ceci/Granlund last year.
Their 27 1st could be available?

Yeah didn't they just give up everything and the kitchen sink for Rantanen?

More like Coleman. The Stars don't have the assets for Kadri.

With Johnston and Hintz they don't need to pay the premium for Kadri to be 3C.
It's actually a place where if they ever decided to move Backlund where he'd be a good fit. Or somebody more like Schenn who probably costs less and can also shift to wing easier if needed.
It won't happen but I wonder what a team would pay for a combo of Backlund and Coleman. Just parachute in one of the best defensive 3rd lines in the whole NHL.

But do they have room for a guy like... oh, I don't know... maybe Coleman?

You might want to look up Johnstons stats. He is 22 and has had 2 30 goal seasons already and is on pace to smash that and over a point per game.
No way they move him for 2 guys in their mid 30’s

Plus they have to figure out Robertson so adding a $7M cap hit doesn’t make sense for them.
27 1st + 26 2nd for Coleman at 50% retained?

I'm assuming you're joking, but if not Dallas might set a record for fastest time hanging up a phone. And after that they wouldn't answer Conroy's call ever again.

I know, I guess I'll have to go back to green text when joking. I'd love Johnston but they're not moving him.

The Stars also have Seguin, who is still a totally capable mid six centre.
The Stars could use an upgrade in their bottom 6 wingers, and Coleman makes sense.

Yeah, I was really hoping they were having trouble signing him to his RFA deal but nope.
He's their 1C now.
If Backlund would waive, he's they what they need. I guess you could try and move Frost to them for a good price.
I suppose Kadri at 50% would be attractive to them. But that requires a significant payment. Dallas has either a 2026 or 2027 first round pick to give depending on where they finish. But not much in the way of prospects.
