I don't know why I thought they were more reasonably priced.

What is it with this thread? I pop in here to hear some things about the iPad and there is some argument going on. Weren't there separate threads about apple products started so we could just talk about Apple stuff? Not argue about what is best? ....
Anyway.
Temporary_User, I am with you. I would love one of these iPads. But the price (combined with some low billing months for me) means I won't be getting one right now. But I am sure I will get one within the next few months. It would be my floating computer in the house, my book reader.. so many other uses.
I have to purposely avoid going to the Apple store to touch one. lol

Highly recommend not playing with one. Everything I had read about not “getting” the iPad until you held one turned out to be true when I got to play with a co-workers that he brought up from the US. The size, feel, responsiveness of the device is alluring.

Shenzen, China to Anchorage, to Indianapolis, to Missasauga, to Calgary. Seems like a round about way to get here. I suppose thats the way air shipping works.

I wonder what my chances are if I walk into a store after work today trying to find the 16GB or 32GB WiFi.

Just had an unfortunate discussion with a friend that has had his delayed till tomorrow. It went on a totally different shipping route than mine. Mine went china -- > alaska --> missisauga --> calgary while his went China -> Arkansas -> Tennessee. It's currently stuck in Tennessee.
Worst part? It's being delivered tomorrow ... to his work

Mine went China -> Alaska -> Missisauga -> Memphis.
I had a feeling I would regret ordering it online, I really do despise Fedex.

Hm, plug in the iPad, iTunes doesn't like it and says that it needs to be restored and put back to factory settings.
An inauspicious start...

I don’t think the package necessarily hits all those locations though. I think it can be physically in one place and logically in another location for processing. The Mississauga stop, for example, is for customs processing. There is no way they flew it to Toronto only to take it back to the States.
That or I grossly overestimate the capabilities of their routing software.
I wonder if anyone has ever stuck a cell phone or GPS in a package and confirmed what actually happens...I bet someone has..

Just got one from Westworld ... 64GB 3G model. I'm out of town, but I called the sales guy there who looks after me all time and he had it in his hand as we were speaking. It ships today and I'll have it Monday. Woohoo. My daughter is getting one too.
I guess they received about 90 last night, which will be gone by noon ... some models are already gone. I think all they had left when I talked to them were the 64 GB models, both WIFI and 3G. They guy said their Edmonton store had about 200 though and that they were going to ship them some more over the weekend and they'd have them in stock on Monday. I don't think they're allowed to take orders, and it's limited t one per customer, but I suspect if you were there when the store opened on Monday morning you might luck out.
Woohoo. Can't wait. My sales buddy at Westworld let me play with one for about hour a few weeks ago (he got it in the US). Ultimate cool. Drool.

Heh, already I see a glaring problem with the device. Multi-users.. I don't want to setup my email on it because then my kid can just pick it up and start deleting my emails and rearranging my calendar.
Need to be able to select a user and "log in" as that user. Or password protect some apps at least.

I received an ipad as a gift a couple days after launch and ended up giving it to little brother for this exact reason.
He then flipped it off for a hefty premium and bought himself a $197 netbook at staples.

Yeah, that's why he doesn't get to play with my iPhone, he's got an iPod Touch.
The one time I entered in my password on the touch to get something he went into the app store and bought the full version of the Spore game because the password was cached.
He's 5.

You fool! Now he can look at porn!
Agree with the password protection on certain apps. It is in the computer/not a computer zone, and in some cases it needs to act more like a computer. Over time these issues will be ironed out I assume. Then again this issue hasn't been addressed with iphones and ipod touches either.
