Costco has their spring promos going on right now. $80 off a set of Pirelli tires and $70 of a set of Bridgestone. I believe the Michelin sale starts next month.
I'm ordering a set of Pirelli tires for our vehicle. The Pirelli tires I'm looking at are significantly cheaper than comparable tires from other brands and they are highly ranked by Tirerack.

Found the exact same thing for our SUV. Ordered a set of Pirellis a couple weeks ago that were top ratings on Tirerack, but much less than any other brand, they are great so far.

Looking to swap back to the all seasons in the next few weeks (still think we might be some snow in March). One set of the all seasons has pretty low tread, but not down to the wear bars yet. Is there a tread thickness that is above the wear bars, but unsafe to put on because they will wear too much over the spring/summer/fall? They will probably get 8,000km or so until I put the winters back on.
I tired googling this, but the only advice I can find is: check the wear bars. Not exactly helpful.
Want to be safe here, but if I can get one last season out of them, I would prefer that.

Why would you buy all seasons for summer, instead of summers?

It doesn't get hot enough for long enough in our climate for dedicated summers. Mornings tend to be crisp for the most part, and I don't like the feel of summers when it's that cold; I found them rough and skittish on my morning drive. I ran summers for 7 years, and don't do it anymore. Ultra high performance all seasons run quieter, and last longer. Unless you're on a race track, you won't notice the difference here. And I have peace of mind of being able to handle a skiff of snow or freezing temperatures before switching to winter wheels at the end of October.

Fair enough. Calgary is pretty messed up. For example I could have had summer tires on for the last month. A few times last year in the mountains I've been a bit nervous with my summers as there was a freak snow threat.
That said, I absolutely disagree that you won't notice a difference between all seasons and performance tires. I've run both a number of times and it's a massive difference. I do drive an AWD performance vehicle though.
I'll continue to run summers but I change them myself and I have two sets of wheels, so I can easily go back and forth if required.
As long as we can all agree to run winters in the winter, instead of no-seasons!

I've ran summer high performance for 7 years, on a hot hatch, and could no longer be bothered with the high wear rate, noise, and risk of cold temps for the small increase in performance. I do change my own wheels as well, and can do them in 30 min.
Maybe I'm just getting old.

So am I testing fate here if I take off the winters this weekend? The long weekend gives me a little extra time that makes the swap much easier, but usually Easter comes much later. I just feel like I'm wearing out the winters in this heat and I really haven't needed them for the past few weeks with the exception of that one morning a few weeks ago.

The Winter's Coming Winter Tires Thread
I'm also thinking of swapping out the winters with the all seasons this weekend as well

As long as your all-seasons are in decent shape, then you shouldn't have a problem if we get a light dusting of snow. I doubt the snow would even last. It would probably just melt once it hit the ground. I changed mine 3 weeks ago, and except for that one icy morning we had a week ago, it's been fine.

Three weeks ago? That worked out for you by pure fluke. March is typically the heaviest snowfall month of the year in Calgary, isn't it?

I was tempted to switch over in mid-Feb, but had to show some restraint. Realistically though, we've had a pretty mild winter, and my all-seasons have maybe 15,000km on them, so I wasn't too worried about driving if it should snow. If we did have an epic dump of snow, I would have probably stayed home that day.

i put on my summer tires a few weeks ago as well. i know that calgary wettest months are march and april i decided to take a chance.
i drive an AWD vehicle and I only put snow tires on it last winter, and to date i would say i have not noticed a huge difference - but lately i drive more and more like an old guy in a fedora

Lol, you'll probably survive.
I'm one of those Neanderthals who drive on all-seasons year-round and I'm still alive.

Obviously the answer is to have one vehicle with summers and one with winters. No more switching
