Hey Chris - looking for some advice. Heading to Dreams Resort in Cancun for a wedding Jan 3-10, I have the hotel booked but am still looking for a flight at a decent price. I can get one right now (return) for $600ish connecting through Dallas but would really like to find something cheaper. Am I rolling the dice hoping for a last minute fair over the holidays?

I think it definitely is rolling the dice hoping for a last minute deal around the holidays.

After New Years *could* have a better shot of something coming up (certainly far better chances than something that involves over Christmas, or over New Year's Eve) but it's still taking a risk, for sure.

The best chance would likely be on Sunwing, they seem to be the ones most frequently dropping the price of their last minute flights to Mexico.

They just dropped their Cancun one (Nov 19-27) about 4 days before departure, down to $347. But then, you're also limited to whatever dates they fly to Cancun, and it looks like it's usually Friday to Saturdays, and you're looking for Monday to Monday.

So, definitely a pretty big gamble, considering you have the resort booked, and it's a defined date.

Inflexible dates and a definite location are the enemy of good last minute deals.

Last minute flight: Calgary to Cabo - $335 roundtrip after tax

Sunwing's November 22-29 flight to Los Cabos, Mexico just dropped.

You'll notice that Sunwing has been doing this a lot lately, usually with less than a week to go before departure.

Last Minute: Calgary to Cancun, Mexico - $197 roundtrip, but no tax?

Ok, this is strange, but there is a flight from Calgary to Cancun, Mexico showing up as $197 roundtrip, with $0.00 tax.

You can see it on all the major Canadian travel sites. Try it on ITravel2000.com for example...

1. Click on 'Flight'

2. Search for Calgary to Cancun, November 24 to December 1

3. Look at the second result, you will see this:



And when you verify the price, it's still valid. Even though it's a WestJet flight, this price doesn't show up on WestJet's site.

Quite possibly the greatest deal to Mexico that Calgary has ever seen! Or just a huge mistake.

But the last time Calgary had a huge mistake, some of us went to Spain for $100 !

I don't think its a mistake, it appears that Mexico is incrementally entering a Columbia like period of violence. If you are in a position to handle risk, trips to Mexico are a great deal. I've pegged in the latest UK travel report on Mexico:

Holy $%@#! - Flight & Hotel to Vegas for $85/person after tax !

UPDATE: I've just been informed this code works for New York too! I can get it down to $180/person for flight + hotel ! Ridiculous!

UPDATE: I'm seeing some packages that bring the price down to less than $75/person for flight + hotel !! Try 2 nighters. It's valid for dates up until December 30.

Try it for one person at a time, even cheaper!

Expedia.ca just put out a promo code for $300 off flight + hotel packages to Vegas

The promo code is SAVE300

It needs to be entered on the LAST page of the booking process, right before you actually pay.

Here's a step by step guide...

1. Go to Expedia.ca

2. Search for flight and hotel packages from Calgary to Vegas.

Try the dates December 16 to 18 for example

3. Sort the packages by price, pick the cheapest, or whatever you want, such as Gold Coast & Casino for $312/person.

4. Go through the annoying booking process, clicking continue, etc.... (you'll be hitting 'continue with booking' a lot)

5. You'll finally get to one that says 'Accept rules & continue'... click that one

6. Now you'll get to a screen that looks like this:



Enter in the voucher SAVE300 and apply the new price, reducing it by $300.

Which brings the total cost down to $300 after tax for 2 flights and hotel to Vegas!!! (see update, can even be cheaper)

Share what you find if you try different dates and hotels!

Damn my wife was to slow calling me back. I can't seem to find any dates with Westjet as the cheap airline.

Just to note this code is working from all across Canada.

A bunch of us are booked for flight + hotel at $89/person after tax.

And that's a Friday (leaving after work) to Sunday, direct on WestJet, the perfect Vegas flights!

Just booked a 24 hour bender! Leaving 7 45 am monday 29th coming back 10 pm tuesday 30th 30 bucks! Direct flight down not direct coming back

I wont be getting engaged like the $99 spain trip but I plan on being really wasted with the wifes brother in law to make just as many memories!

Looks to be good until 11:59 PM PST on Nov. 21 (Sunday). Of course, the flights are quickly selling out so the price will keep going up and the flight times/connections are getting worse.

Hey just a head up...look at Edmonton flights if Calgary's are full. I just booked a good deal from there...3 nights $150

From what I've found...

- code works on flight and hotel packages departing up until Dec 30. The code itself is valid for 48 hours, but I think all the good prices and flights will be long gone by then.

- you can book 1 person flight + hotel packages, get $300 off and then book another one, getting another $300 off

BUT

Not sure what Expedia is using to figure out if you've used the code already, because they're only letting people use it once.

If you use a second computer, different credit card, and different Expedia account, it should work.

- works for Cancun and New York as well.

- this code works from anywhere in Canada. In fact, it works from the U.S. too, but the actual terms say that it's only valid for flights originating from Canada. Remains to be seen what will happen to those who have booked out of U.S. cities.
