I’ll say this. I don’t know the video game. I do live in Calgary so it was kind of cool to see sites you know, plus it represented as a post apocalyptic wasteland where they digitally alter … well, ~50% of reality (oof)
And yeah there was one compelling episode with Nick Offerman
Otherwise? *yawn*
Probably enjoyed it more than I would have otherwise due to Covid aftershock.
With time to reflect… It was boring. As enjoyable as watching your university roommate play a video game. Nothing happened.
Just was thinking about a new season, and realized I couldn’t give a crap about another one. Maybe I’ll watch it. But most likely to figure out if I’m missing something. Or see other local sites and try and figure out what % of our daily life is altered to represent a post apocalyptic wasteland.
Ok. Carry on

Never played the video game, don't know anything about the story or what is about to happen.
The fact is was filmed in Canada drew me in, but I really, really enjoyed the first season. Can hardly wait for Season 2. They even filmed some of it in the Kootenays

Ditto.
Honestly, for me I just enjoyed it as a compelling show. Neat premise, good actors and overall I dont think they had any episodes I'd class as a 'stinker' and that had more than a few that I'd consider 'awesome.'
That Offerman episode was off the charts.
You'd need Oprah to host the Emmys after that episode..."you get one, you get one, everyone gets one!!"
Its just a good show. It has a high standard and often exceeds it.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

The Pilot, Museum/Legislature Building, Offerman and Northland Mall episodes were thoroughly enjoyable to me.
The scope of the show does seem rather confined though. Not expansive like TWD. And the fact that those few episodes were the whole first game really speaks to that.
as a huge fan of the games, those were my favourite scenes. The talk show opening in the pilot, this one about the outbreak in Jakarta ... just awesome, because they provided background and context about the outbreak itself. I wish there had been more of these.

The TLOU universe and story is intentionally confined. I think that's why it had such a huge fan base when there were other huge zombie/post apocalyptic IP for video games. The relationships are the primary story with the skin of a post apocalyptic/zombie genre as the secondary.
Resident Evil, TWD, Dying Light, DayZ, L4D, Days Gone, WWZ etc. are all either too complicated or or shallow in comparison to TLOU, but primarily, they're post apocalyptic/zombie stories with relations ships secondary.
I think the only other media I can think of off the top of my head that's basically relationships first and post apocalyptic/zombie second is Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead.
Looks like they've up the zombie action a bit which I'm for. I'm not a big zombie movie fan at all, but felt like it was a bit lacking in the first season.

Just a reminder about the no spoiler or speculation in the thread. If you've played the games and know the story that's fantastic. But hinting around things with emojis is out of pocket IMO. Stop it
