"It's such a treat to watch Connor McDavid in person".
BARF
To be fair if you are a hockey fan you absolutely owe it to yourself to watch McDavid live to appreciate just how fast and dangerous he is. I hate the Oilers as much or more than anyone else here but the guy is a first ballot HOF player and Calgarians have kind of been lucky to see him as much as we have as we never really got to see Crosby much live. In a couple of years he's probably going to move east and the 2nd half of his career will be seen out here mostly via TV and highlight packages. I'm not a big fan of Hrudey doing color but he's absolutely right here.

The biggest takeaway for me from the Sarich interview was Sarich strongly hinting that it was either Keenan goes, or Iginla goes. I never caught wind of that.

Keenan said it was ownership that wanted him fired and it seemed liek Sutter was on the hot seat as well. Either get behind the bench and fix it or bring in your brother.
At least that is what Keenan said. He said when Sutter canned him he told him he didn't want to but ownership told him to. Keenan is also a liar and parasite that has stabbed people in the back so who knows.
I just remember him blaming Kipper for costing us a chance at the cup.

I remember Keenan's interview, and how he said that Sutter told him it was ownership. I am not sure I really bought it as Keenan used to be Sutter's coach back in the day as well, so maybe it was just an excuse as Sutter probably didn't like how practices were being handled, and the lack of defensive structure. I think this is why he ended up getting rid of Keenan and hiring his brother who had more of a defensive-minded approach. Anyway, that was all hashed out back then many times over on these forums.
It was specifically the "Iginla or Keenan" angle that I never heard of before by anyone.

For some reason, I seem to remember the "Iginla or Keenan" thing being hinted at before, maybe it was a different Barn Burner interview or something. It's always just hinted at in passing but when Boomer brought it up in the (awesome) Sarich interview, I seemed to remember hearing about it before. Maybe I am just misremembering. There isn't a lot of detail about it for sure but Warrener has also been candid about his feeling toward Keenan so it's not so far fetched to say the players on those teams weren't happy with Keenan.

Keenan was terrible anyways and a terrible hire. Doesn't matter who made the call to fire him, he should have never been hired.
Backing into the playoffs his first year going 0-4 to clinch. 2nd year scrapped the system halfway through the year, and never practiced special teams and did 5-0 drills and blamed the goalie.

Interview with Marcus Nilson on Barn Burner today.
He was my favorite during the ‘04 run.

Just listened to it. Another guy who had no use at all for Mike Keenan. Off all the things Darryl Sutter did as GM, that might be the most bizarre move.
Really Nilsson never seemed to recover from that knee injury he suffered when Brendan Morrow got him skate on skate in that afternoon game. But such a key piece for that 04 Cup run with Donovan and Niemenen on that line.

Nilson is awesome. What the 04 team did on the ice was amazing and rejuvenated the fan base in Calgary. But all of those guys on the team were gems. Such a likeable group, and they genuinely liked to play in Calgary.
In the big picture, as a GM left the club in quite bad shape. But wow, his first couple of years and that 2004 deadline in particular were incredible. Midas touch.
