Rose & Crown and Kildare’s would be be the only safe bets I imagine

Damn, I would like to go and watch the game, as I id like to check out a game, albeit I would cheer for the Whitecaps. However the price of tickets on tickemaster for resell if about 80-90 bucks. Would you Calvary fans here think any or this game is worth that amount?

Yes. This game especially I would pay those prices if I didn't yet have a ticket.

Voyageurs Cup game day! We don't have to put the Whitecaps in their place, because Ciara McCormack already did. Let's do this...

Have they sent out anything regarding the parking for this game?
Will there be more lots/entrances open?
I know they shut down that one entrance for pass holders awhile back...(am I a pass holder if I have seasons tickets?).

Just a heads up that the Kildare's bus is now leaving at 6:30. They had originally said 7:00.
I think that's a safe bet to leave a little earlier, but unfortunately it will probably rule out our crew travelling from Tuscany on a weeknight after work (with enough time to properly patronize the establishment, of course).
That being said, it is a beautiful pub and we enjoyed our last jaunt there, so I would recommend it for tonight and future matches if your schedule permits. It is a proper supporters pub - signage, other CanPL or Voyageurs Cup matches on the screens, like-minded folk, etc.
EDIT: A second run at 7:00 is possible but not confirmed. I'll check later today and update as necessary.

Pre-game story in the Herald: https://calgaryherald.com/sports/soc...3-58d6a06c540a
It is absolutely not going to happen, but this is interesting:
Quote:
Funny enough, the Whitecaps arrived in the city Tuesday on the same day that word is circulating a group of investors, made up of local and international interests, is moving soon to table a formal bid to bring an MLS franchise to Calgary for the 2026 season.
Even if such a proposal is backed by soccer fans here, support for that would likely be difficult to secure at the national level with the Canadian Soccer Association entirely on board with growing the sport in Canada through the CPL and not with the MLS except in already established MLS markets.
|
Given how feckless the CSA is, I doubt they have the power to stand in the way of another Canadian city going to MLS (unless Bob Young wants to try and ensure only Hamilton does). But there is simply no reason for MLS to choose a mid-size Canadian city over just about any mid-size American city. That's the real problem.

I can't see the MLS ever landing in Calgary. I like what the CPL has going on with grassroots development, which is really what Canadian players, clubs, markets, etc. need. I just can't see Calgary being on the radar of MLS ahead of American markets.
I think that the three cities that can sustain MLS already have teams. Calgary, Edmonton, and Ottawa (the next 3 most populous) are pretty small markets in comparison.

I know for a fact that at one point, the CSEC had interest in bringing an MLS team to Calgary.

It makes sense. Building a new outdoor stadium is better when you have two teams and about 35 dates to fill rather than one team and 9.

If you had asked me six months ago if I wanted an MLS club in Calgary, I would have said "yes" before you even finished the question.
Now, however, I realize I really like what Cavalry and the CPL are developing. I like the character of both the club and the league as a whole, and I think they are very good for Canadian soccer.
If Cavalry progresses to become an MLS club one day, I suppose that would be OK. But if the MLS coming here would mark the downfall of Cavalry and the CPL, I would not be happy.

I agree with all of this. I really like what the Cavalry has become so far, and hope it continues to grow in popularity. Could MLS be an option one day in the far future? You'd hope so... but for now, the CPL and the grassroots development of this club is needed in this city. It's time to build that rock-solid support for soccer in this city first and work our way up from there. You have to learn to walk before you can run, as they say.

If losing Calgary would result in the failure of the CPL, then the CPL is already doomed to fail. There's more than enough decent Canadian sized markets for the league to do well absent Canada's fourth largest metro. Also, since its implied the MLS group would be separate, there's no reason why Cavalry could not continue on. Though, of course, higher level competition would likely render the team unsustainable in short order.
Overall though, I doubt the Southerns have to worry about it.

As excited as I am for our game tonight, I really want to see the Wanderers v Ottawa Fury game. I really hope the Wanderers absolutely smash them. Enjoy wallowing in the USL you tools!

I hope that next year the Voyageurs Cup is seeded a bit differently. CPL clubs based on the previous season performance in either CPL or Voyageurs Cup, and Ottawa tossed in with the lower-seeded CPL teams.
If Ottawa loses handily today (not sure they will though), that will put their preferential seeding in doubt, for sure.
