Yeah, I suspect it was the threatened offer sheet that made the difference. If you want to make a deal with someone, you don't threaten to whack him with a hammer first. Either make nice and negotiate, or cold-#### the guy and take his wallet.

I know you guys are excited but my expectations are tempered. He could be a future captain, he could be third pairing in 4 years. I sit in eager anticipation but there's no way I'm getting too hyped yet.

bad news for your eager anticipation, tomorrow frolik and Hamilton will be wearing the jersey, and the hype may be inescapable.

He could also be a Bouwmeester x 2 and, notwithstanding he's Canadian, be totally unable to handle the scrutiny of a Canadian market. Bouwmeester seemed so uncomfortable every time a microphone or camera was even near him.
Hamilton hasn't been in this situation yet, so time will tell.

I think Boston has a bit more media pressure than Florida.
It is not a big enough difference in my opinion to say it is a much better package when dealing with the team where your former GM works and the team that will take advantage of the horrible cap hell that same GM caused the Bruins by signing Hamilton to an offer sheet
Depends if you're a professional or just some spiteful little ##### as EDM fans might see it. Luckily for us, Boston appears to have a raging hate-on for Chiarelli.
That being said, I doubt it was all those picks+Nurse, like was mentioned previously. It was probably 16+Nurse and the Oilers balked, if I had to guess.
We probably just had to match the offer, not beat it, which is huge. Like I've mentioned previously, I don't think rival GMs are out to do any favors for Edmonton. If they want to deal, they need to bring their chips with gusto. This isn't just because of Chiarelli, it's also because other teams don't want to help Edmonton build a contender.
Looking back, it is clear to me that Boston didn't want roster players, due to the cap situation, because a deal around Yak, Draisaitl or even Hall would likely have been easier to negotiate, and more agreeable by the oilers.
That still doesn't explain why they didn't get even a single prospect in the deal. Even a b prospect+1st+2nd would have looked better.
Maybe Sweeney thought he would get praised like Chiarelli was after the Kessel trade.

Lol. Chiarelli got once in a lifetime lucky to get a second and a ninth overall pick for the same player.
How many current players would fetch that kind of return, if the picks were known? Crosby? Stamkos?
lol that is awesome. I didn't think it could get any funnier but then bamm "4th overall is good!".
I have to give compliments as well. I know the clip and thought "oh this should be modestly entertainin"g, but the writing was top notch with the clip. Well done.

I was listening to a THN writer being interviewed on the NHL radio network a couple of days ago. He still couldn't get over the fact that Boston traded away their "22 year old franchise defensemen. You don't do that. You never trade a guy like that." He was incredulous.
Hamilton is going to be a franchise type dman for this team by all accounts. Amazing that Treliving secured this player for so little.

imagine Chiarelli walked away from the opening night of the draft with McDavid and Hamilton. If the Bruins go with the Oilers pick package over ours they leave the night with their franchise centre and defenseman. Chia would be praised by the hockey world (like Treliving). I don't think the Bruins were in any rush to make the guy they just fired look like the best GM in the game
