This team is in a heap of trouble if that's true. The players will all likely be ticked off at management at this point, which doesn't bode well for this season and the future.

They should have blown it up if they didn't feel there was a realistic chance at winning anything.

It sheds some light on Bautista's comments for me, at least. Players are bound to be frustrated in the heat of the moment today. Hopefully they don't let it affect play on the field.

Valencia was added to help against LHP. That along with the returning players will be all there is to work with, barring some waiver deal. Hopefully the players can rally around each other.

Here's the clip from SC: http://www.tsn.ca/VideoHub/?collection=72&show=409662

Apparently late getting to the park...a big no-no in MLB.

I don't think spending money is the reason no one was acquired, it's giving up the (young) assets to acquire the talent that is the issue.

Good on Jose....and Casey Janssen doesn't mince words.

http://gregorchisholm.mlblogs.com/20...en-speaks-out/

Is it AA and his worry about pulling the trigger now...or been told that it has to pass through 3 layers above him?

Or is it as simple as just Rogers, once of the worst, if not the worst run and managed large company in Canada, not opening the purse strings when push came to shove? (see "Next Issue" commercials every inning break as Rogers trying to push magazines down our throats)

A combo of both, and the fact that the players all along assumed the words in training camp would hold true 4 months later...start alienating players and that word gets around the league.

They didn't have to add a Price or Lester...but some depth on the mound and upgrade on infield

Almost as if AA is polishing up the "injuries killed us" excuse if this season turns into a disaster without even a wild card spot (and they should be aiming for as easy a division title shot, given the way the AL East is weak this year) if Lind and EE and Lawrie don't come back and return to early season form.

Disappointing to say the least, and the vitriol already being spewed by players mere hours after, shocked at the fact that they were firmly believing more help was on the way to give the team an emotional boost (at very least- see the Janssen link answering this question), goes to show that this could be a big issue attracting FA's and keeping guys like Melky.

There's still the August trades, but AA didn't or couldn't do anything in the offseason, and have nibbled around the edges all season as big injuries have surfaced, and had all sorts of chance to spend money this past couple weeks, and had nothing to show for it except Valencia, so why would August change?

4 games against the 20 games back Astros...winning less then 3 and its a big setback and have to worry about the team pysche.

It must be frustrating to be a Jays fan.

Guess it's understandable that a lot of Canadians support them for nationalistic reasons but that is one awful organization. Could be like the Yankees given how deep the pockets are of ownership but instead are seen as the symbol of mediocrity year in and out.

Then they finally add a ton of salary last off-season, get into a position for a push this year, and choose not to go for it, but don't sell either.

All with stars like Bautista just at the end of their prime. The Jays are like the anti-Oakland A's.

Toronto sports teams are no good.

So whats the plan? to be average at best forever? By the time those guys are any good (if ever) the Jays top players will be over the hill or gone. Boston and NYY are about to load up this off season.

Player perception that the team is a bunch of cheap asses and don't have the stones to do whatever it takes to push a team over the top will keep top talent away/force them to look elsewhere

I want to go sit in RF in Houston. Navarro ties it up at 4 with a solo HR.

With today's negativity and Seattle winning this was a huge huge win.

Top of the 13th in Baltimore. 0-0 still. Angels at 1st and 3rd with no outs.

If the Jays don't pull off a playoff run, Rogers is going to have a hell of a time fixing its reputation after today.

Can't wait to see how they cheap out on NHL coverage.

Don't forget that this deadline is almost meaningless in Baseball. If you want to add a player who will cost you a few bucks there is still time to do it. Today saw a lot of player for player type moves. There will still be some post waiver action.

If the asking price for a for a Lester or a Price was Stroman or Sanchez +++ then I can't really blame AA for not pulling the trigger. Those 2 young guys could be a deadly combo down the road.

Agreed. Talking with a buddy and he wondered if Boston would ask for more from teams in the AL east, like the Jays and O's, to trade Lester to them. They may plan on re-signing him...but what if they can't?
