Sounds promising in the short term any way. But I don't think Russia will stop until they have a land connection to Crimea. |It's just going to take them longer than they hoped originally.
I hate to say it, but it is almost time that Ukraine surrenders and starts negotiating terms, because Russia will get it eventually anyway and no one will stop them.
Cede the territory in exchange for debt forgiveness,
compensation to Ukrainians that wish to relocate and don't want Russian citizenship,
a permanent and enforceable peace treaty, and
the acknowledgement for Ukraine to join NATO/EU without Russian interference.
Eventually they are going to lose the territory and won't get anything for it, or it will be susceptible to rebel extortions forever.
In terms of the two highlighted ones, I doubt that the Ukraine will ever believe that. the 1994 diarming treaty was supposed to be that and the Russians even have their signature on it and it didn't matter. Putin will continue to push in the Ukraine. This ceasefire will be over in a matter of days.
The second part, the Russians will never allow to happen. They won't abide by their border being crowded by NATO nations armed by the Americans and British. Its just as likely that Russia would demand a neutral state status for the Ukraine with a cap on arms for any full treaty to happen.
This isn't over by a long shot, cease fires tend not to last that long.

What additional sanction can they put on Russia, and Russia will just retaliate through their energy company which is working heavily with the Chinese at the same time.
I was overly optimistic on this ceasefire. I thought it would have lasted long enough for the Russians to re-supply the rebels and give them a brief rest to consolidate their holdings. This ceasefire will be finished this week.

Surprising no one, British civilian investigative journalists have used satellite imaging, digital photography detection techniques and social media from Russian troops to prove shelling and arms came from within Russian borders into Ukraine. Western intelligence would have known this long ago, just no one wants the escalated conflict.
Quote:
The Bellingcat team analysed crater patterns from satellite photos of three battlefields where the Ukrainian army came under particularly savage attack last summer and traced the estimated trajectories back to likely firing positions, where it identified scorch marks and tyre tracks on satellite images consistent with Russian rocket-launchers.
With a single exception, the identified firing positions were on Russian soil. Furthermore, the tracks to and from the firing positions led further inside Russia, further evidence that they were Russian units, not separatist fighters who had strayed across the border. Images of the same terrain just before the attacks show no track marks or scorched earth.
British intelligence releases proof showing use of Russia's most advanced anti-aircraft artillery system in use fighting Ukrainian forces. My how crafty of those rebels to have build these overnight with no help whatsoever.
Quote:
"The presence of the SA-22 in eastern Ukraine is yet more proof of direct Russian military involvement in the conflict," the British ambassador to NATO, Adam Thomson, said in releasing the pictures via Twitter.
"We call on Russia to fully implement its Minsk commitments," he said, referring to a truce agreement that calls for withdrawal of foreign forces from Ukraine.
So 2 Russian bombers came VERY close to Iceland, the closest in history for us. During the cold war we had many submarines popping up in our waters over the years, but this is a first for us.
The NATO guy they talked to on the radio said this is the most aggressive stance he's seen since the cold war days.

Those submarines are still there, the Russians have launched two of their brand new Borei missile boats in the last year and a half, They've also launched their first in class Yasen boat last week and its suppossed to have finished its builders trials and is in active service.
No more diesel boats for you.

I'd like to see a photoshop of a Russian ship bristling with guns and a crudely scrawled 'Disney Cruise Lines' on the side.
"Zis is not warship....is pleasure cruise!"
